Oak Park/Northwood is a traditional subdivision, complete with grid streets and homes dating back to the 1960s. Because it is an established neighborhood, giant oak trees enhance the landscape and offer shady streets and sidewalks to residents. Residents enjoy easy, fast commutes with Downtown San Antonio just 10 miles south. Other destinations directly south of Oak Park/Northwood include Fort Sam Houston Joint Base San Antonio, the University of the Incarnate Word, and the San Antonio Zoo.
Head northwest to the San Antonio International Airport and the North Star Mall. McAllister Park, also directly north of the neighborhood, features hiking trails, ball fields, and a dog park. While Oak Park/Northwood is mostly residential, you’ll find an H-E-B, Starbucks, and other businesses along Nacogdoches Road. More shopping is located just outside the neighborhood along Basse Road, including the very popular Torchy’s Tacos.

Property Ratings at Verano at the Heights Apartments
I lived here going on 2 years. My lease is up at the end of the month an I'm glad to say I will be moving!! In the first year of living here its been problems with the plumbing and the apartments have been sold 4 different times an have had at lease 6 different managers that I can remember. A week after moving in they sold to a new company an fired the manager. There was a list of things we told them that was wrong one was the dishwasher, which by the way is still broken an smells horrible. The fact that every time they get a new owner or manager they ask for a list that never gets seen cause stuff still the same way. Glad I took pictures an video of the way the apartment was given to us. It was dirty an pet hair all over the place. Our AC went out in the end of April an still not fixed an I have called, emailed and left messages that I have a infant in the house an its hot! Don't even wanna get started on the assigned parking spot we got when we moved in an now all of a sudden the management is telling new tenants there is no assigned parking. So after 7 pm its fun having to find a parking because the new tenants have people that don't live in the complex parking in residents parking area. Called an the management said she would not get around to an gave me a list of her duties she had to do before getting to it. So in a nutshell it would take a few months for to address it. Called in June an its now August, still no resolution. I dont even call the office anymore just packing a ready to move out. Needless to say the only reason we stayed is cause the location is close to work. I rather make a long commute then stay another year. I would not recommend this apartments to anyone for the cost they dont really get stuff fixed around here.
I moved in towards the end of 2015 and absolutely loved the place due to it's location and appearance. It's super close to everything and it's relatively quiet. It feels like you are more part of your neighborhood than in an apartment complex. The complex is structured so that it surrounds courtyards that are pretty to look at and the units are located on the second story, with the car ports located underneath them on the first floor-I loved this aspect the most because there are no upstairs or downstairs neighbors! However I think I may have been lucky and been in a perfect unit because my neighbors would complain of the constant maintenance issues such as the water or gas bills that are ridiculously high. They are constantly working on the water pipes near the complex and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. There has also been many management issues. I've done some research on the complex and it's been passed around many companies, at least 4 in the past 5 years. There was actually one of those company changes two months after I moved in and the new company send in a landlord who was constantly drunk on the job and was never pleasant to meet with. That landlord has since been fired and the company sent another one who seems to be pleasant to work with but the company does not fill her in on a lot of information so it is always difficult to get some answers from the leasing office. Overall, I do believe that this complex has some potential but right now it's a little messy to deal with. I, personally have had a good experience but many of my neighbors do not feel the same way.
