The second largest city in Michigan, Grand Rapids rests on the Grand River, about 30 miles east of Lake Michigan. Formerly known as the Furniture City, Grand Rapids is now nicknamed the River City as well as Beer City USA for its riverside locale and proximity to 40 craft breweries. Grand Rapids is also the hometown of former United States President Gerald Ford. Fans of the 38th president can learn more about his life and impact on American history at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.
Notable as an artistic haven, Grand Rapids hosts the annual ArtPrize competition, a 19-day affair drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city and featuring artwork all throughout Downtown Grand Rapids. Frederik Meijer Gardens exhibits an expansive variety of sculptures and gardens both indoors and outdoors. Meyer May House is revered as one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterpieces.

Property Ratings at Viewpointe Apartments
I been a loyal resident at Viewpointe for over 2.5 years and it is nothing but a giant scam. When I first went to live there, I was told that there was an open unit and that after I got my application in, the unit would be mine. I spent $100 on my application and the next day when I called, they stated that unit was no longer available. After I asked for my money back, they were able to get me another unit but a month later. While living there they would continue to raise the price of rent along with the price of car ports without proper notification. At the end, my roommate and I notified them for months in advanced that we were leaving. I was in communication with the front office several times a week. About a week before moving out, the office told us that I owed $1,200 for the next months rent because our notification was not is writing. It is outrageous because I continuously kept in contact with the main office and told them at least once a week that we were not staying there and not once was a written notice of leaving was mentioned. Due to this we pretty much lost our deposit. This complex will scam you and does not do things by the book. One giant scam.
I lived here for a year and had countless issues. Not even a month in, our kitchen sink started leaking underneath the cabinets, soaking all of our cleaning supplies, trash, etc. in water. Maintenance was fairly quick at replacing the faucet, but a week later, the same thing happened again, this time soaking the kitchen floor (and again, all of our things under the sink) in water. Two days later, our garbage disposal stopped working, which would prove to be an ongoing problem throughout the entire year that I lived there. Maintenance would come in, fix it, leave, then come back again to fix it again. On and on and on and on. More small problems here and there, and then four months after moving in, chipmunks had crawled inside the eaves on our balcony. There was literally a colony of chipmunks living inside our living room walls. As if that weren't bad enough, I put in the maintenance request and it took them OVER A WEEK to do anything about it. I finally had to email the property manager asking if anyone was ever going to come take care of the animals living inside our walls (that I could hear scurrying around, burrowing, eating food, building nests, squeaking, and things). She emailed me back saying that all of their maintenance staff was on a business trip, and that they would get someone to come take care of it when they got back. So essentially, I had to live with tons of baby chipmunks inside my walls until they could leisurely get someone to get them out. Cue winter. Freezing temperatures and our heat stops working. Classic. I swear, there were nonstop problems. And as if the constant problems with the actual living situation weren't enough, the customer service is absolutely awful. Take my word for it. There are a thousand better places to live in the Grand Rapids area, where you won't have squirrels living in your walls, old women glaring at you any time you walk to and from your apartment, and horrible customer service. Do yourself a favor and rent from a private landlord who actually cares about their tenants.
This apartment complex is the perfect mix! The management is always friendly & the amount of space you get for the money is a sweet deal! Living only a few miles outside of downtown Grand Rapids is wonderful for exploring the city! I'd highly recommend Viewpointe Apartments!
We have lived at Viewpointe for a year and a half. We absolutely love it. We were hesitant about living so close to 28th street, but you can't hear the street at all. There are washers and dryers in each unit along with a dishwasher. We have a two bedroom and two bath unit and it is extremely spacious. We also have a corner apartment so we have a side window that creates a great cross breeze. There is a great community atmosphere here and I've recommended the complex to everyone I talk to that is looking for a place to live. Maintenance is fast and so is the leasing office on answering any questions. The biggest downside is that it is not insulated the greatest, but the will come and plastic your windows shut in the winter if you ask. I've lived in multiple apartments and this one has been my favorite thus far.
I have lived in Viewpointe Apartments for over a year now. I have enjoyed my time here. The location is great, very close to highways, shopping, restaurants, and more. The staff is very friendly and always make you feel at home. The maintenance staff is fast and AMAZING!!! I have lived in many apartments and the maintenance has always been each place's downfall. But not here! They are fast....the couple of times I have put in a high priority request, they were here in less than an hour. They are effective....I've never had to have them come back later, they always get whatever is wrong fixed immediately. I had issues with my washer/dryer combo unit and my AC unit, both issues were fixed the same day I put in my request. We rent a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom unit, and it is very spacious and comfortable. The pool is awesome, and can be used year-round. There are a couple of drawbacks to consider. It is a high rise building (8 floors), so it is a bit of a walk from your car to your apartment, having to park and walk into the building and up the elevator. But for grocery shopping and bringing large things in or out, there is a service garage with shopping carts to being your things in and out. There are also garbage chutes at the end of each floor's hall, so you don't have to walk your garbage all the way out. And the biggest drawback is the fact is in an old building so most of the units are dated looking. You won't find swank finishes. I know they have renovated some units with better countertops and fixtures. But the building itself isn't anything pretty to look at. But these are acceptable sacrifices for the quiet atmosphere and comfortable living space. We actually don't have any issues with hearing neighbors above or below us, it is a quiet building with secured entrances (you need to scan a fob to enter the building). There are many elderly people who live here but also many families too. There is an active train track that runs by the building. You don't notice it much unless you have your windows or slider open. The units have a washer/dryer combo unit which is very small, you have to be very careful to not overload it, make sure you use HE detergent, and clean it out regularly, let the door sit open and dry out after use. It's handy not having to change machines but you can't overload the machine or your clothes won't be dry at the end of the cycle. Overall I have enjoyed living here and I would recommend it highly!!!
Viewpointe Apartments is a nice place to live, thanks to our friendly, helpful local staff. They do their very best with the budget they're given. The owners are out of town and they're so tight, every time they bat their eyes, their heels come off the ground. The building is eight stories high and was designed as a condominium development about 40 years ago. At that time, new ideas caught on a bit slower in Grand Rapids, Michigan than in the rest of the universe. As a result, the spacious units didn't sell and the building has been rented ever since. One big item: each unit has its own laundry - I admit, I do spoil easily. Most of us older folks enjoy having a mix of older and younger people in our community. It keeps us from talking about our ailments so much. Right now, Viewpointe is full and we have a waiting list. The owners have increased the rent on each apartment $55 a month. Those of us on fixed incomes hope we can afford to stay here in the years to come. I've also read the rules and I'll share my review with folks on e-mail and FaceBook.
