A former mayor once dubbed Bellingham the “City of Subdued Excitement,” an oddly perfect nickname for this delightful and unique community. Ninety minutes north of Seattle on Interstate 5, Bellingham is a charming small city positioned about twenty miles from the Canadian border. Western Washington University enrolls around 16,000 students, many of whom chose to live in the coastal Sehome area near campus.
Locals are quite enthusiastic about beer, books, and bicycles, and you’ll spot many businesses around town specializing in any and all of those Pacific Northwest staples. Bellingham hosts numerous community events throughout the year, covering everything from music to athletics; perhaps the most unique is the annual Ski to Sea race, a seven-leg relay in which teams compete to get from Mount Baker Ski Area to Bellingham Bay via skis, bikes, boats, and by foot.

Property Ratings at Village at Baker Creek
If you have to speak to the office for any reason be prepared for attitude and not much help even if you go in with the nicest tone. All communication from them comes off as threats rather than just notices (ie when parking spots are closed off for work) They use a portion of their parking lot that is visible to about 20 + units as a trash dump of couches, appliances, tables, etc. this pile grows and grows until they clean it up and start the pile again the next day. It’s a constant eye and nose sore. The grass seems to be cut by a teenager with how sloppy it is.
I have lived here for two years because the first year wasn't bad. That's literally the best way to describe village at baker creek. In two years they have overturned management 4 times, literally all of management. They tried to force me to pay a rent increase in the middle of my year-long lease, refused to fix my washing machine and made me sit without one for over 2 weeks, and let me be harassed and threatened by surrounding neighbors without doing anything about it. I had to call the cops on neighbors for months straight because of the screaming, violence, and verbal threats that were occurring. In the lease, it states you cannot threaten or harass others but when reported to management they tell you to call the cops and that they refuse to do anything about it. They also force you to allow them to do internal inspections whenever they please and close down the front office without notifying you so you cannot pick-up your packages (in my case medicine for my animals- not to mention the office is only open 9-5pm M-F so you have to leave work early to pick up packages and if a package sits too long they send it back without notifying you). They are inconsiderate and the rudest management I have had to deal with. Do not recommend anybody to live here.
I've never had as much trouble as I did with this property management then any others in town. Myself and anyone else who have lived there can all tell you the same. I'm glad I'm leaving this dreaded place and warn all potential renters to look anywhere else if possible.
Management is so poor here and nobody is qualified for the positions they're in. They will treat you like you're less than them and ignore your concerns. Grant has lied to me about qualifying for different units and unit availability. We have to fight for maintenance work to get done and it is never done timely or correctly. Parking isnt easy past 5pm and people will park against the sidewalks blocking it from any pedestrians. There is no after hours maintenance or support so if you work, good luck getting a hold of them. Their hours are 8am-5pm m-f only. Neighbors dont clean up dog crap from the grass. The apartments are cheaply made and many have mold issues (the neighbors talk). Things break left and right and nothing gets replaced, only baindaided. Overall, its not much better than your local homeless shelter.
Lived here for a year in a brand new apartment. The only upside was that appliances were new so I didn’t have issues with that. However, the apartments are poorly built, Noise comes with apartment living but here you could hear even the neighbors talking, people going up and down the stairs. Within 6 months, the paint inside was cracking and the carpet was coming off. Management is not very nice and they take more than 3 days to get back to you and about a week to take care of maintenance issues. Just as I was moving out , they sent out a warning about not having anything in patios including bikes, except for patio chairs. If it wasn’t removed, fines would be issued. I understand not letting people store things but bikes really? A new building is going up and the parking is simply not sustainable for the amount of people.
We were a military family and have had our fair share of apartments. Never in the history of renting have we had to deal with such rude management! Our washer was broken for 2 months! They kept ordering the wrong parts, not listening to matienence about what parts to order, not having a matienence person trained in applience, and frankly they just didn't care. My husband and I go to school full time, work full time jobs and have two little ones and they couldn't find it in their hearts to replace a washer when they pretty much rob us to live in a poorly built apartment. Yes, even the new buildings are very poorly built. They raise rent whenever they get the chance. They complain about a kids wagon being on our porch. An outdoor kids wagon! Told us we'd owe them 40 dollars if we dont take it off. Matinence guys walked in our apartment twice when I was showering and scared my 4 yr old to tears wjen strange men just waltz into her house. I wouldn't waste your time here...I've gotten nothing but attitude with these office ladies and no good things to say....
The apartments are nice and spacious and get a lot of natural light, but things are always breaking. I've never had an issue with punctuality of maintenance and they have indeed fixed everything but they will occasionally just barge into the apartment without asking when doing so (no knocking or anything). Old management was wonderful, new management could be better. I haven't had to talk to them much but that's mostly because of a running joke in my apartment of "surprise surprise, I went to the leasing office and they had their 'be back soon'" sign up. I had to ask about rent once and was unable to contact them for multiple days and they did not respond to emails or messages I left over the phone. Parking is scarce and not enforced (they don't enforce visitor parking, handicap spots, etc) so as someone who works late, I often have to park a significant distance from my building. I do love the apartment itself and have renewed my lease multiple times. There's a great balcony, it's incredibly close to the mall and WinCo which is super convenient, and it's pet friendly (though another negative: nobody picks up the poop. there's seriously dog poop everywhere.)
During the whole process of a lease takeover, the management was extremely unhelpful and even went so far as to yell at me for 'wasting her time' when I came in to sign the apartment lease I had already been approved for. Very unprofessional and irresponsible management, as well as some ridiculous fees and a long application process.
Paper thin walls, something always needs fixing, rude neighbors, poor parking availability, hidden fees, and AWFUL management.
