Delaware, Ohio is a bustling community about 30 miles north of Columbus. Ohio Wesleyan University resides in downtown Ohio and brings a college town feel to the area. To the west of the Olentangy River in downtown, you’ll find an abundance of incredible, family-owned restaurants such as Son of Thurman. This local burger eatery has been in business and family-owned since 1942. Another great place to support locally-owned businesses is Staas Brewing Company.
The Delaware Municipal Airport is located in town, as well as three different golf courses and multiple parks. About eight miles north of downtown Delaware, you’ll find Delaware Lake and State Park. There you’ll have access to River Run Park where you can kayak/canoe down the Olentangy River. After you find your apartment in Delaware, make sure to visit local eateries downtown and take a trip down the river for incredible views of Ohio’s natural beauty.

Property Ratings at Village Gates of Delaware
Over the last year or so this place has become terrible if you have to deal at all with office staff or upper management. They had a "preventative maintenance" check and told us it would happen over two different days but not specifically which day. Then when they showed up suddenly and there was ANYTHING under a cabinet they charged $25 per sink. If you want something fixed it takes usually a month. If you are late on rent they post up eviction notices on your door within a few days of being late and charge you very high fees (this is even for 1st time offenders). None of these things are warned in lease btw. Front staff hire friends and boyfriends to be maintenance and then hang out in their apartment instead of work. Quite possibly the worst place I've ever lived. Interiors are mostly squeezed quarters, no basement, and everything looks like freshly painted but still 90s. Oh I love the ducks in the ponds, though.

A very good place to stay, with friendly people. But since Julia left everything is different. For example you can request a service and wait a solution for 1 month, with Julia we used to have a solution the same day or the day after. We have to notify you 2 months before the end of our lease if we’re going to stay or move but you don’t notify us for the increase of rent before the end, that let us with no choice because we don’t have time to search for another apartment. In addition they just offered us a one year lease contract, not less. So you have to stay and accept their condition, you want it or not. With Julia there was no empty apartment, now there’s more than 10. The prices are crazy, I hope you understand that asap

Village Gates of Delaware is a lovely gated community just on the outskirts of town. I love that it's close to both 71 and 23, as well as being less than a mile from a grocery store. The staff is friend, maintenance is quick to respond, and although they get their job done quickly, they still take the time to give affection to my cat. The neighbors are wonderful people. There's a mix of age groups, but I haven't see any sign of drama. Things I'd fix: It's expensive. They bill these as luxury apartments, but I'm not sure how they get that classification, since there doesn't seem to be anything special about the apartment itself that isn't available elsewhere. Additionally, the grace period is really tight (you have until the 5th to pay, then you pay extra, but you only have 6 days after that to pay or get out...so if you're not paid by the 11th of the first month you miss a payment, you're done), and they don't allow partial payments at all. If the budget is tight for you and some kind of personal catastrophe strikes, (i.e. dead car) you get the additional stress of trying to not be homeless. This is not a fault of the staff, mind, it's just the policy that they have to enforce. The cabinets are WEIRD. Maybe it's just mine, but there are no corner cabinets. The construction crew used straight cabinets for everything, which means there are a lot of narrow doors that I can't fit things in, and I'm not using a large portion of my cupboards to store anything. There are no ceiling lights in the bedrooms. This doesn't seem like a big deal if you have stand lamps, but I don't...so I have to light my bedroom from the closet, bathroom, or hall. Things I LOVE: Jenny and Kim are amazing. They're kind and quick to respond and they're very knowledgeable! The neighbors are wonderful people, and I feel very safe in this community! It's really a very pretty area. There are ponds and a pool, and lots of greenery, and even a pretty spacious picnic area. Overall, even though it costs more than I'd like to be paying, if you can swing a little extra, I'd say it's worth it.
