Property Ratings at Waena Apartments
We had bugs right when we moved in. It was a few ants and I figured it was just because it’s summer. No. The ants grew and grew. It’s awful. They have pest control but like it doesn’t do anything. I literally clean ants all day here. It’s gross.
This place is all false advertisements. It's not safe here first of security for nothing they sit there and watch people park all over the place and dont say anything. The place houses alot of low income which is ok but..... alot of them are filthy on several occasions I find used condoms and dirty empty beer cans everywhere. This place has a major major major cockroach infestation. I've spent hundred on cleaning and bug people and I'm still losing to the iij infestation. Now let's gets to the maintenance. Broken fridge leaking everywhere.. you call them they look at the problem and then say ok its fixed... Guess what right now my fridge is still leaking. So now, you think "call them back", I've called them 5 times and nothing has been done. I'm currently living here because I'm stuck in this one year contract. But when it's over I'm running out of here... Please dont let the people who take you on a tour let u think that the place is great its horrible.. front office is nice to you till you sign the lease.. Dont live here I promise you won't regret it if you just walk away.
Neighbors have no courtesy for your parking. Charge u for everything ridiculously. Renewing the lease it goes up another 300-400. This place has nice maintenance people but that’s about it. Mail was tampered with. Vehicle vandalized on two separate occasions. It’s a straight up money pit. Such a bad experience living there. I’m so happy I moved up out of there! ITS A TRAP ! Definitely not a safe place to live. (Funny people after night fall)
Our small family would love to believe that this apartment meet our needs(centralized location) despite the high price rent. To our disappointment, not very safe to live in. You can smell marijuana being used throughout the day despite keeping your doors closed. Often, you can smell & see urine inside the elevator and on the stairs which often takes forever to be cleaned up. That very same elevator got broken multiple times. Very noisy kids in the playground from daytime even up to past midnight. Security guards very mean to kids. My kid and his friend won’t even go to the playground because they’re afraid of the security guard yelling at kids. There’s plenty bystanders smoking beside your car. 1 small parking that barely fit your car. Your parking that’s located too far from your unit and while you’re in a rush/ try to park on your stall, there’s somebody else using your parking. Your car will end up being towed if you park on somebody else parking slot. Management says they don’t guarantee your safety! Why need security guards then?! There’s a lot of cases of units being broken into. A lot of green trash bins have dumped trash around them and if you’re lucky those trash are gonna fly to your car. There’s a huge cockroach problem in the building despite trying to clean the house. Spent a lot of pest control products but unsuccessful to eradicate roaches. Everything inside the apartment are cheaply made. Within the first week, not even touching it, a lot of blinds came off because of the wind. Toilet bowl and kitchen sink being clogged often. Kitchen sink and bathtub drain got clogged and backed up dirt from other units. Lights won’t turn on despite new bulbs. Laundry and dryer are small and you have to go to leasing office to load your laundry card. Only to find out that all dryer and washers are all taken. No loyalty to fAithful residents. Yearly rent increase and you’ll find out that your rent is even higher than your neighbors despite staying here longer. Management looks down on you and very sassy when u make reasonable request. They only take action when you threaten to leave them. Before signing that contract, think again! You’ll be devastated and stressed for all the repairs, cleanliness and safety issues you’ll encounter. A lot of our neighbors left, knowing that they just moved in. We only stayed because we got tied up from that same contract you are about to sign!
Im inclined to believe that all the 5 star reviews are written by the "lovely" ladies in the office, because living here was the worst experience i've ever had. The team in the office would almost always treat you as an inconvenience, but would at least TRY to help you. But with Kuini, you would have to repeat your question multiple times before she finally understood what you were asking, all the while she would be giving a sassy tone, and be talking down to you. If it weren't for her, the office would be at least a little bit pleasant. That being said, the main issue with Waena Apartments is the security, or lack thereof. My unit was broken into, and the woman that came to do the report (the security team is nice, just a bit lazy) said that 3 houses had been broken into within the past week. Which would be easier for me to understand, if they would actually lock the gates. they would leave the front gate (facing mayor wrights) open 24 hours, and some of the doors along the perimeter that required a FOB to open, were broken for months at a time so people could freely walk around the apartments. These problems stacked on parking issues, loud neighbors, dogs howling in units, price hikes in rent, and being nickel-and-dime'd out of most of your security deposit (pay for every cheap blind that breaks off of its little clip, most of which broke off within a week of being there) i just think for the price of these units, it would be easy to find something in a better location, with less hassle. This isn't the rant of a disgruntled ex-tenant, i just want you to know that you cant buy in to the ratings for this complex, it definitely isn't 5 stars. You've been warned haha
Rediculous!! Only one stall per unit, even with a 4 bedroom. Not to mention 80 percent of the stalls are way too small, allot of times you can't even get in your car.high crime area! So many residents have their cars broken into, managements response to this is, "get a alarm". Don't get suckerd into the somewhat reasonable monthly rate. It goes up 100 to 150 every year! No joke! Management has no loyalty for long time residents. It's all about the money! After the introductory smiles, you are simply just a number!!!

I've been living here for 3 years now and only because I split the rent three ways with two other roommates in a 3 bedroom apartment. The apartment looks great at first but then you realize that everything was made cheaply, they have a major cockroach problem in every building, you have to pay to get anything fixed in the apartments such as blinds or stairs that break over time AND there is a false sense of security with gates that don't work and patrolmen/women sleeping on the job. The neighbors are not friendly and you are living in a shady party of town. The only real positive is that management is now open an hour later and the gym isn't half bad. The reason for the two stars would be the location of the apartments is very centralized to anywhere in town and easy access to highways to go East or West. There is also a Times/Foodland/Walmart/China Town all next to the apartment. I think this is more of a temporary, 1 year kind of apartment but nothing to raise children in or permanently live there.
These apartments are perfect for people who are single or have small families. The office workers are amazing and will work side-by-side with you all the way
For being my first time renting an apartment in Hawaii, Waena was wonderful. I was on mainland at the time and they did everything possible for me to have a place to come home to when I arrived. We had a 3 bedroom and it was on the smaller side of the complex with a quiet courtyard. It was within easy access of Safeway and HPU downtown area. Also, super convenient, considering how close it was to china town. They do a great job at keeping a gated community safe. Although, our apartment flooded multiple times and they didn't really do anything major with our apartment and stuff until a few months later, they did make sure we were in better hands and moved us to a new unit. All in all, they do as much as they can to cater your needs. It was a good first place experience.
I'm renting a split level 2-bedroom, 1 bath, 1 parking apartment paying $1,840.00 plus utilities (trash, water, security) an additional $150.-00. This rental complex is very convenient. It's very close to public transportation, which I'm able to hop on to any bus to go where I need to.. The common areas are maintained very well by it's grounds keeping staff who are very friendly, also. I feel very safe and at ease as my husband works at night and I'm at home by myself. The security staff is constantly patrolling and are very helpful when you call for assistance. The maintenance department is quick to respond to trouble calls, although I only called them 3 times since I've moved in. The always leave a note with a description of the repairs they did to the unit. The rent I feel is on the high end, but it's the price I pay to live in a safe environment but most of all to live in Hawaii which is definitely PARADISE.
Waena Apartments is great place to stay friendly stafff , great atmosphere in a blooming part of Honolulu. My experience with Waena Apartments has been one with nothing but great lasting impressions. One of the great things about this place is the on sight maintenence if somethings broken get it fixed right away. With reasonable pricing for rent and great features makes Waena one of the best places to stay in Hawaii, whether a short or long stay Waena makes it feel like home.
I had recently moved to Hawaii on a wild hair and needed an apartment asap. Waena was wonderful and so helpful considering in was on mainland. The leasing office people, maintenance people, and my neighbors were all so friendly. It was a convenient considering it was a few blocks from HPU, grocery stores, and china town. The new renovations made it really easy to feel right at home. Although, we had problems with plumbing and flooding three times. By he third time the flooding happened and the neighbors and my roommates all fighting corporate and the office to help for the safety. They finally accommadated us to our appropriate, sanitary needs and moved us to a new unit and made sure we would be okay. All together, this was a great place to live. Especially if you want to experience the convenience of living close to downtown.
Beautiful apartment 3 bedrooms 1 and a half bath very spacious living. Ceiling fans in the living room and master bedroom huge lanai.paking is very limited it only comes with 1 parking stall. Great neighbors laundry room is close and has a gym for everyone to use.
I currently attend Hawaii Pacific University as an undergraduate student. I moved to Oahu from Wisconsin, and the leasing agent worked with me to get my application in through email, explaining every step in detail to me, a first time renter. I chose to live in Waena Apartments instead if the dorms because they are actually cheaper! I am saving money on everything from coin laundry to commuting, as the apartments are right downtown. I couldn't have asked for a better location or price for my new home!
