A mere six miles east of Huntsville, University/Research Park hosts one of the world's leading science and technology business parks. Central to the area's economy, Cummings Research Park brings together Fortune 500 companies and U.S. space and defense agencies with the best and brightest from local universities to create a premier center for research and technology. Townhomes and condos form the bulk of the rentals, meaning there’s something for families, students, and professionals alike.
This area has become a research hub for both government agencies such as NASA as well as private corporations including Lockheed and IBM. The abundance of research jobs in addition to the local educational institutions created the need for housing to accommodate the workers, students, and educators.

Property Ratings at Walden at Providence
Do Not Rent here. I know the grounds look nice, but that's where nice stops. The apartments are low grade with cheap, old appliances, cabinetry and countertops. My kitchen sink wasn't even set properly, leaving a gap between the sink and the counter. They install the cheapest carpet on the market, and they will charge you to replace it when you vacate. Washer, dryer and microwave are not included in your rent. It is not a quiet apartment complex. Depending on what building you are in you will hear noise from University Drive and the car dealerships who have voice alarms going off beginning at 10 pm and ending at 4:15 pm. There is new construction on the property, so there is also noise from equipment. The windows and exterior doors are inadequate, so dirt, dust and other debris wafts through into the apartments. The leasing office continues to break their own pet policy by leasing to people with dogs over 45 lbs and giving them apartments above the first floor. The flooring does nothing to buffer the sound, so if you're looking for peace and quiet, you aren't going to get it at Walden at Providence. Truly, this place is a dump. Do yourself a favor and rent someplace else. There are too many options for you to live here.
This is the worst moving experience we've ever had. We moved in yesterday after a huge debacle about the move in dates being messed up. We had been living from hotel to hotel until we could get into the place and I finally got someone to help us get in two days early. Now I'm sitting here with my two kids in an apartment with no air conditioning (they did bring us small portable ones), light fixtures hanging from the ceiling, the closet with the AC and water heater is filled with mold and hair, there is a nasty old hair tie wrapped around one of the shower heads filled with hair, the ceiling is yellow and dirty with a bunch of spiders all over it, and one of the boards on the playground was upturned with screws sticking out. I could honestly go on. We were so excited to get started here but this is one of the biggest disappointments of my adult life. Edit: Day 4 of being here and just got our AC on for the first time. Tried to wash our clothes and the dryer doesn't work, HVAC still has the mold and hair in it, the breezeway was infested with spiders and I had to kill them myself with bleach because they kept getting into our apartment, and just noticed that our dishwasher has mold and mildew along with dead bugs. It smells terrible. We were spending just a couple hundred dollars more for a beautiful condo in Northern Virginia and I cannot believe the condition of this place for the price.
The apartment is in a great location. However, 9/10 times the call box at the gate will not work for guests trying to get in. Also, they will tell you they will email you when you are approaching your 60 days from lease expiration to remind you to give notice but they do NOT. I left a voicemail and sent an email to inquire about the move out procedures and didn’t even get a call back. The burden is definitely on you

I have lived at Walden at Providence for a couple of years now. I can't say enough wonderful things about the entire team. There is a new manager and she is top notch!! She is very professional, attentive, and makes the residents priorities. It is nice to feel appreciated by the team, Maintenance is always quick to respond, the prices are the best in the area, and the community is very quiet!!
I have lived here for exactly a year to date. 10/10 defiantly recommend. Safe, Quiet, and Conveniently located to everything you need. The office staff is always available to answer any questions and address concerns.
The office staff and maintenance staff are personable and responsive, excellent! The location is the best in Huntsville for the pricing. The gated (important to me) community is large and well maintained overall. Interior of units and appliances could use updating but are very comfortable for the price. I would have given 5 stars if the gym and grill area received a little more “love” in maintenance and cleaning. 4.5 out of 5 stars would be my rating if it was available.
I've lived at the walden for around a year and a half now and I absolutely love it!! The person who showed us our unit was amazing she made me feel comfortable about my decisions and was extremely helpful she answered all of my questions before I even asked them. Since I've lived here anytime I've had a problem with anything they are always ready to help and are very understanding of situations!
When we moved in in 2019 things were alright, the unit was a little beat up but staff was good so we didn’t mind and the location was nice. Fast forward almost two years and I can’t wait to leave. Once the pandemic hit things really took a nose dive. Office staff will not answer emails or phone calls no matter how many times I tried. I even went to knock on the front office door and was not answered during a regular business day during business hours. The dumpster is always over flowing to the point of trash coming down the stairs, even recently having an additional dumpster added to the property and even it is completely overflowing with trash. Our guest gate code hasn’t worked for roughly 6 months. I’m continually told it’s an issue with the gate system a reset will fix it. The reset never fixed it. The walk in gate has been broken nearly the entire time I’ve lived in the property to the point where it is often completely stuck so you have to walk in the drive in car gate in order to walk back to your apartment. Before the Amazon hub was added, the office tried to give away a package of mine to someone else. I had been at the property for over a year. The package was clearly labeled with my full name, address including correct apartment number etc. They took a sharpie to the box and marked it out putting someone else’s apartment number on the box. Maintenance has “fixed” our leaky sink in the master bathroom 3 times. We just keep a bucket under it for when it leaks. The construction of the units is shoddy with crooked light switches, horrible wall patches, and other fairly obvious imperfections and cut corners. I could go on but these are the main points that make the price of rent feel like a bit of a rip off. For as much as we pay and as much as we have stuck to following the rules and trying to be good model tenants I expected much better especially after renewing the lease.

I have never had to deal with such unprofessional, rude, and entirely indifferent office staff as Walden employs. Not a single part of the management involved in this apartment complex cares about their tenants. Maintenance is a crapshoot, either disrespectful or entirely absent. Repairs don’t last and the more requests you put in the more you get ignored. The front office will not answer the phone if you are a tenant. I could ask an outside friend to call and they’d pickup... what sort of sick avoidance tactic is that? The trash is a health hazard. It is always broken and overflowing. The “gated community” up charge in rent is a total waste. This neighborhood is in no way secure. Front gate is repeatedly broken, people drive in the exit gate, the guest codes never work consistently and the pedestrian gate is rarely functional. They mishandle packages and in response to complaints swapped to an Amazon hub. Lazy. Ridiculous. If I could I would choose 0 stars as a rating.

Walden at Providence is located just outside of the main Providence "downtown" scene. You can easily walk from the apartments to the bars and food areas. This is great if you are coming off University/Highway 72 because you basically have your own lane that goes directly to the apartments and stops shortly after. Walden is also within a quick drive of Walmart, Kroger and many places to go out to eat. The community is gated and offers a garage like clicker to open the gate so you don't even have to roll your windows down to enter. The apartments were recently painted so everything looks nice and new. Inside the apartment there are large walk in closets and nice living areas. My only complaint with the living areas are that some contain a large computer desk in between two walls in the prime location where you would want to put a television. This is especially bad in some of the apartments with a sunroom. The location does allow smoking which could cause problems if you live in one of apartments adjacent to a smoker. Aside from that you will likely not have any problems with your neighbors as the community is pretty quiet. You are more likely to have a noise complaint from music playing at one of the bars than you will from your neighbor.
So I moved in with my new wife in 2013. She lived in a one bedroom apartment that was soon too small for the both of us. After finishing her first lease, we decided to stay at Walden but move to a two bedroom. As we transitioned, the complex did as well. Our old property manager left and the new one transitioned in. As she did so, our leasing consultant took a job elsewhere and since then there has been a revolving door of non-committed front office employees. Additionally as this tough process was happening, the parent company thought it was time to add in a new color scheme to our buildings. Well in today's capitalistic economy they of course went with the lowest bidder. That mean that the process ( told to us to last only 60 days) took over 3 months to complete. Plus instead of going one building at a time, we were subjected to all the apartment buildings looking disorganized until the final days. In addition to the messy paint work, workers left garbage and ladders and tools strewn about for the duration of their time here. One would think the groundskeeper would step in and remove said garbage, but he hardly likes to step off of his golf cart. A neighbor's air conditioner went out about two months ago and to this day there is still a busted air conditioner in the small hedges next to her bedroom. We've had problems off and on with dog owners not picking up after their dogs, which is on them, but also on the groundskeeper, as he's the one who is supposed to "gather samples" in order to fine those who leave the messes (We have Doggy DNA {Pooprints} look it up). Lastly one of my biggest complaints is just the lack of availability of the office staff. They never answer their phones, rarely call back in a timely manner, and are very often out of the office during peak hours. I had a birthday present (amazon package) in the office and needed to get it Sunday when we arrived back in town after a small trip, ( they have Sunday office hours) so I went to the office on four different occasions looking to get my package and was left go to the party gift-less because no one was there at any point in the day. The prices are on the fair/high end and the neighbors are friendly so aside from the office staff I'd say its nice here.
