Nestled along the Brunswick and Cape Fear River, Leland is a suburb of the waterfront cities of Myrtle Beach and Wilmington. This pastoral-chic town is near three beaches and other major attractions within the Brunswick Islands region. Locals spend their free time kayaking along the rivers that flow through town or traveling about 30 minutes south for a beach day. Kure Beach offers fishing piers and is home to a variety of activities including the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Residents take full advantage of being so close to the beach, but there is also plenty to do in town. You’ll find renters buying locally grown veggies and plants, taking a class at the Shelton Herb Farm, or taking a horseback riding lesson at Wonderland Farm. If you want to access to a variety of landscapes at all times when renting, Leland is a prime option.

Property Ratings at Waterleigh at Leland
Nice place overall. Units very clean. Staff is professional and kind. Friendly community. Maintenance is professional but work orders move a bit slowly. To their defense they could be understaffed. Trash pick up has been somewhat inconsistent and had a major trash compactor issue on property right after move in.

Hi there! We really appreciate you and the fact that you took the time out of your day to provide your review! It really means alot to us! Hopefully all will be back to smooth sailing with the new pick up schedule! Let us know if you need anything! Have a great day!
It is very difficult to get anyone on the phone even when you are a resident. To resolve any issues it takes days for them to get back to you, if they ever do. Beware, they charged me a cleaning fee when I moved out for leaving the apartment with normal dust and fingerprints on a fridge. I did not agree with the charge but in order to resolve the issue after several conversations, I decided to just pay the bill. I submitted a check to the appropriate address and the money was deducted from my bank account yet they turned me over to debt collection. They cannot find the payment. Despite my proving my payment on time with bank statements showing the withdrawal, they will not call off the debt collector they hired, who is now reporting the non-payment to the credit agency. I have had excellent credit (750+) my entire adult life (40 years) and this one, non-responsive, unorganized company has ruined my credit score and I have been denied loans. Beware!
Top of the line appliances, large patio with Valet Trash pick up. The pool is good sized, although only 4 feet deep. So far we love it here :)

We are so happy to have you here and hope that you continue to enjoy the community and amenities! Please let us know if we can be of any assistance!
Beautifully kept community with friendly, helpful staff who plan fun-filled activities throughout the year. Love my apartment home--it's peaceful, nice neighbors--I am very fortunate to be living here at Waterleigh!
I moved into my building just as construction was completed and I had several issues that went unaddressed after moving in. However once the maintenance team changed over all of my items big and small were taken care of immediately and ever since then, I have not gone more than two days without a maintenance request being completed. Thank you Josh for always being empathetic to our needs and concerns and staying on top of everything and keeping us updated on resolutions. Thank you Cj for always making sure our property looks great and always being a positive and friendly face out on the property. The new maintenance team combined with the wonderful office staff has made this a wonderful place to live.
Since the day I walked into the office and until present day, I have yet to have an issue. One thing I have noticed with residents here (not all), is that when it comes to things that are outside of everyone’s control they blame it on the office who are only doing their job. Example: Market value for rent in and around surrounding areas is HIGH. This in turn is affecting leases going up for renewals. This is not something that they have control over and I wish people understood this. It is happening ‘everywhere’…including the apartments where EVEN the office staff lives, whether it be on or off site. There was recently some confusion after the management switched over, which caused some delayes in water/sewer billing. We didn’t have to pay a water bill since like December Whoo hoo. I knew it would be coming, as to where, no one is going to have a free water bill unless included with rent …which here it is not. Once everything switched over they even made it to where not all past months were billed at once and was split up to make it easier on everyone. A lot of people didn’t understand why they still had to pay….it’s pretty simple actually…you use it and you pay for it whether it be then or now. It’s also in our lease that we are responsible for it. Not everyone will look at these things the way that I do, but why not make life easy on yourself. The staff works hard to do everything they can for us to the best of their ability with what they’re given. I most definitely want the new management group we have now vs. when Waterleaf was first built. The new management team FHE is actually allowing the complex to do special events, food trucks, soon to come pilates events etc. Remember, we can only control the controllables. -Cassie P.s. if you don’t like seeing a bunch of dog poop in the dog park, then pick it up and make it pleasant for all of us that go on a regular basis. I mean I do it…why can’t a few more do it? No sense in complaining about it when you have two hands. It’s not the responsibility of the maintenance team nor is it mine, but it sure doesn’t hurt to put forth some effort towards keeping our area clean :). ‘BE THE DIFFERENCE’. Ally, Olive, and I LOVE where we LIVE

Wow! Where do we begin? Thank you so much for choosing Waterleaf at Leland as your home and for the patience and understanding as we navigate the changes. Your review is deeply appreciated, and we are grateful to have residents that care!
We signed a year lease for Building 1 and broke it within 2 months. The renters upstairs are a family of four with two toddlers. The daily, hourly non stop screaming, running and pounding from the kids and parents was unbearable. Our schedule became their schedule. Up at 6am, play time during the day, up until 9pm or 10pm on weekends waiting for them to finish their day, it was exhausting. The simple things one should be able to enjoy like reading, watching a movie or a Saturday morning cup of coffee was always a disappointment. We dreaded going back to the apartment. Working from home and being pregnant, it was so unhealthy to be in that type of environment, I never felt relaxed. We went up to them a few times to ask them to be quiet and “management” supposably said something to them about the noise, nothing changed in fact it became worse. We emailed daily videos to management showing them and they did nothing, they just said “we can’t tell people how to live”, REALLY?! Management has each tenant sign a 50+ page contract outlining the rules of apartment living but yet when it comes down to a tenant not following the items specifically outlined in the contract and when brought to managements attention they do nothing about it. So what’s the point of a contract?! You think you’re living in a “luxury apartment” with new appliances and granet counter tops, the over all quality of the building isn’t that good, you hear everything! A hotel is better managed and put together than this place. Other things to point out- The outside lights are on from sundown to sunup and the light pollution into the bedroom windows keeps you up. Also, EVERYTIME we cooked anything- chicken, eggs, bacon, pasta, vegetables, the smoke alarm would go off in the apartment. Other things to watch out for is the amount of dog poop everywhere, no one picks it up… Save yourself the annoyance, time and money.
