West Orange is an upscale suburban community located about thirty miles west of Manhattan. The township is best known for its historic Llewellyn Park neighborhood, filled with Victorian homes that once belonged to such prominent citizens as Thomas Edison (Edison’s factory is one of the city’s distinctive landmarks as well). Most of the landscape in West Orange is covered by residential neighborhoods, with the popular Essex Green Shopping Center in the middle of town serving as the hub for shopping, dining, and entertainment.
When the weather is nice, locals love to hit the links at the nearby golf courses or explore the trails of South Mountain and Eagle Rock reservations. Seton Hall University sits just a few blocks southeast of town, making West Orange a great place for students, faculty, and staff members to live.

Property Ratings at West Mill Gardens
Living in this apartment complex was a regrettable decision. The management was incompetent, with constant turnover leading to confusion and unresolved issues. Maintenance requests were ignored or poorly executed, leaving residents to deal with malfunctioning appliances and plumbing problems. The noise levels were intolerable, with thin walls offering no reprieve from the constant disturbances of neighbors. To top it off, the promised amenities were either non-existent or in such disrepair that they were unusable. The units are extremely outdated. The only plus is there is a nice pool. All in all, save yourself the headache and find a more reputable living situation elsewhere.
Can hear someone sneeze. The walls are very thin. Young noisy tenants
Like many of the other complaints - I moved out because I was on the lower level and the noise from my upstairs neighbor was unreal. It literally sounded like he was in my apartment. I could hear his conversations, footsteps, and even his phone vibrating. I could hear him pushing the buttons on his microwave. It’s a nice apartment with lots of storage, but the noise makes it not worth it for the price, especially on the lower level.
I’m just finishing my lease with them and I realized that most of apartments administered by garden communities the tenants have the same complaint. They invest in cheap apartments that have thin walls, and renovate it but keep the hard floor of the second level the way it is. Which is NOISY. It feels like there is just one layer of wood between you and your upstairs neighbor. In the begging the footsteps felt like it was inside my apartment. Having someone squicking and stomping above you is horrible and you’re going to feel disappointment at yourself. Specially if you have late night neighbors, during the night the footsteps above your bedroom are unbearable. I have had times that I would wake up early and my neighbors were doing loud noise at 1-2am every 3min. Because they allow dogs here you have hear the dogs above you scratch and run and throw toys at certain times that you wanted to be quiet and relaxed. They don’t enforce strictly the 70% carpet rule for second floors so the headache is on you. The apartment definitely looks good and has a lot of windows and good sunlight but it’s not worth the stress and neither the price. For that price they could put a good thick carpet mandatory at least in the second floor bedrooms. At the end of the day having a good looking apartment doesn’t change the fact that you want to sleep and your neighbor is walking like an elephant above you. If you like quiet and nice this apartment maybe could work for you if you live upstairs and pray to net get a loud downstairs neighbor.
Paper thin walls, you can literally hear your neighbors conversations, what they’re watching on TV. Good luck getting any rest at night with the noise. Also, the management office will do everything they can to keep your security deposit

The walls are way too thin, I can hear my neighbors as if they are in the room and my apt shakes anytime they walk. people don't clean up after their dogs when there is bags & garbages placed throughout the complex. They don't even attempt to shovel snow or make any type of paths in over a foot of snow. Power goes out if I even use the toaster while AC is on in the summer and Maintainence has to come fix it. Overall I cannot wait until my lease is up. Highly overpriced for what you get.

I have lived at West Mill for four years and am luckily moving out at the end of the week. My (now) husband and I moved out of our family's home and into this complex and we were so excited. Our one bedroom apartment was spacious and well-kept. No complaints in this area. Unfortunately, everything else is not so great. Neighbors are all loud and rude. Leasing office does not care about complaints. Maintenence does not "maintain" th property and tenants are disgusting - leaving trash and dog waste everywhere. Snow removal is a joke. There is never any parking after 6:30pm on a weeknight and people park illegally in fire lanes and blocking other cars in. Amenity fee is required even if you never use them. The W/D in laundry facilities rarely ever work. Tenants leave their laundry in W/D long after their clothes are finished forcing others to wait. With their recent rent increase, I think you can find a different complex for the same price but with better value! Good luck!
I have lived here for 12 years the maintanence has always been top notch they come when they say they will and fix things the first time it is quiet and well maintained outside. Right across the street from the hospital and near public transportation

Thank you for being a long time resident at West Mill Gardens! We value your residency as well as your feedback and hope that you will continue to be happy at our community for many more years! Sincerely, West Mill Gardens Management
After a bad experience at our last apartment, West Mill Gardens offered a refreshing, friendly experience. Our 1 bedroom has beautiful hardwood floors with plenty of windows that creates an open, sunny environment. The walls were painted and every room was spotless when we moved it. The parking situation is great, especially if you ever have visitors. While all parking is free, there are garages available for $70 if you'd like which is a nice, cheap option to have. The pool and tennis court areas are such a nice addition. On the first day we moved in, we met several of the neighbors. They were happy and welcoming, and one young man even helped us move our stuff up the stairs after seeing us struggle for a bit! The management has been great this whole time, never getting frustrated with our amount of never ending questions. I am finally happy to come home after work to a place I really love.
