Property Ratings at West Wind Apartments
This place is my first apartment and it was doing great till it went up, like a lot. People r very nice and maintenance is a little slow but they still able to get the job down. The only thing I don’t like is the laundry room, like in some buildings don’t have any and they have to walk over, or other buildings r limited.

I’ve been living here going on 2 years. Things have declined over time. I can relate to most things left in other reviews. As far as pricing, and management. Also, they’ve started doing construction and the workers leave their supplies in the parking lot...taking up 5 spaces. I get off of work around 3 am. So it’s annoying having to park at a completely different building, and walk from there to where I actually live that late with a child. I shouldn’t have to do that. The workers should organize themselves in a different, more considerate way. It’s unfair. A lot of people have been complained about this. You definitely get what you pay for. So,if you want more...I’d recommend trying somewhere else before here. They raise rent constantly. The internet is slow and always going in and out. All they care about is money. People deserve to live in a place where they are considered and not just looked at like dollar signs.

I have been living at West Wind apartments for more than five years. It has taken a long time but the Internet is much faster if you’re willing to spend $70 a month. There are no washer or dryer‘s in the apartments and in my situation there are only two washers and two dryers being shared between 24 apartments. On several locations I have had packages stolen. There are no large units for the post office to place packages. Package carriers cannot leave items at the front office either. The residents seem to be mix of 1. college students who are kind and respect their neighbors. 2. college students who enjoy loud music, partying late into the night 3. Questionable figures who fill the apartment with weed smoke, throw their mail they don’t want in the main hallway until it’s cleaned up a week or so later and don’t understand human interaction. A couple weeks ago there were police and swat team at the apartments. They had to teargas an apartment after clearing out the entire building because of an armed resident. This is not uncommon as I’ve seen multiple police here with lights flashing outside of one building or another. A few months ago I was walking with a friend around the complex and there were around a dozen police officers with drug dogs searching the complex. The front office told me they were “training” here. What kept me here was the low rent compared to other apartments. Rent has increased around $25 per month every year. This is typically a non issue, but I was recently presented with a 15 month lease plus $25 monthly increase. If I chose a 14 months lease it was $140 monthly increase and it only increases further as I shortened the lease. I spoke with the front office and was told it’s “Market Rate”. There is no logic in this statement. I have had 12 month leases offered every year with a $25 increase. I was fine with paying that, but now I’m forced into a 15 month lease because it’s “Market Rate”. I understand raising yearly rent, but trapping your longer term residents with a longer lease plus the same yearly increase is shady business. I have never had a complaint called on me, comply with maintenance requests and I have paid my rent on time every month(which is irrelevant to them), so this will likely be the last year I live here.

Had no problems with this apartment for 2 years. We get a new property manager and suddenly I'm fine $100 for smoking on my balcony (something I was assured would be allowed when I moved in) I'm not bothering anyone, and no one has complained. The manager is just on a power trip. A year ago I would have recommended this place. No I recommend you stay far away.

Pros: - bargain pricing. Utilities rolled into rent. - fairly decent grounds/property. Reasonable amenities. - the lease eventually ends. - lots of squirrels... - within walking distance of seedy hotels and sketchy clubs... if thats your thing... Cons: - as most reviewers mentioned, there is an insane big problem here. Roaches, ants, you name it. Multiple visits from exterminators accomplished nothing. - forced to use Bloom internet. Absolute garbage. Overpriced. Inconsistent. Xfinity's lowest tier package absolutely destroys Blooms "best" (who just grafts off Frontier and throttles it). They should be ashamed to be forcing tenants to use it. - units are dated. Small rooms, poorly lit kitchen. Welcome to the 90s. - neighbors are a mixed bag. Some are utterly filthy and are allowed to refuse inspections. Police are not an unusual sight. Drunken domestic disputes on a monthly basis. - community laundry facilities that don't always work. Problems are hand waived by office to (yet another) third party provider for service (just like the trash internet from Bloom). In summary, if your only concern is "cheap" and views with squirrels, go for it. If you want things like decent internet, low crime, and non-insect roommates, look elsewhere.

While we appreciate all feedback, we're disheartened to hear you're not more satisfied with your home at our community. We understand how frustrating dealing with pests can be, but we do offer pest control for such situations. Sometimes it can take several treatments to see improvements, so please do not hesitate to let us know when you'd like to be added to the pest control visitation schedule. Regarding your internet, we recommend calling Bloom about your speeds and connection, as they'll be able to assist you best. We truly want you to enjoy your home and we hope if there's anything we can do to improve your experience, you'll give our office a call so we can chat. Thank you for allowing us to address your comments.
The staff is So so bad on doing anything. They don’t give you information which would cost you dollars in some way. Manager is never seen. If you take any of the low cost ones, you’d sweat while sleeping as the poor window ac is a dying one which they won’t fix. And now they’re increasing the rent which is way too much for these Apts.

As for our rates, our management does research the local area to ensure only fair and competitive prices, as well as takes into consideration our amenities. If there is anything else you'd like to further discuss, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office; we want you to feel comfortable in your home!
I moved in March 2017 and signed another year lease (to be up March 19'). I moved here for affordability. I was a full-time student and needed something basic and close to campus. Electric runs between $30-80 a month depending on season. Internet is provided through West Wind ($60/month) and I have zero problems with speed. When I first moved in I noticed some bug bites. I immediately contacted the office and they had Rose Pest Solution come take a look around. Bed bugs... According to office management, I brought them in but I had only been living there for a month! Not to mention, I had moved from my parents house where we had no bed bugs so I was very confused about it all and was charged $600 to fix the problem they claimed I caused. I don't really buy it especially when I see other reviews saying the same thing. My thoughts are maybe someone else brought them in and they migrated to my apartment?? Not sure. Despite a rocky beginning, my neighbors the first year were friendly, really quiet, and for the most part kept to themselves. I enjoyed coming home to some peace and quiet. My neighbors the second year are loud and lack common courtesy. I live in a 'cat only' unit yet there is a dog living in my building. You can tell from the poop they leave in the grass. I am also slightly convinced one of my neighbors sell drugs but that's me making assumptions based on their traffic flow, hallway conversations, and lifestyle. They could just be stoners idk and that's fine but when they throw parties, play loud music all the time, and leave vomit on the sidewalk for all to see, you can't help but wonder. To finish my review on a lighter note, you can't choose your neighbors and that's the downside to apartment living. But the office ladies are great! They even know me by name when I walk in! Maintenance is pretty on top of things too (though I don't have many maintenance requests). Overall I rated this place a 3 out of 5 because it met my needs but did not exceed my expectations.

Kate, thank you for sharing how professional and friendly our team has been! We appreciate the positive feedback about our efforts to provide the best service possible, but we are disheartened to hear that neighbors have hindered your experience. While you're right that you cannot pick your neighbors, we completely understand your frustrations and we would be happy to chat if you feel anyone around you is violating our community policies. Please reach out to us any time so we can do what we can to ensure you have a comfortable place to study and call home. Thank you again!
I currently live at west wind and have been here for around 2 months. To start, I will say that I was treated completely different before and after I signed my lease here. A mistake I made was not requesting to check out my specific apartment; I was only shown something similar. If I had seen the place beforehand, I would’ve never signed the lease. The carpet was absolutely disgusting. The entire apartment had a strong odor of dog urine and within the first 10 minutes I was there, I opened my front door and a dog came running into my apartment to smell the carpets. I pushed for weeks trying to get it replaced and all they did was a patch. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone and will be leaving as soon as my lease is up. This is the worst I’ve been treated by any apartment complex. The manager was a jerk. Overall a terrible place.
They're way too out of date for the price. Mind you, they're not the most expensive apartments in Fort Wayne by any means but the price for what you're actually getting is crazy. Apartments are old, appliances are old, poor paint jobs (they just slapped white paint all over everything even the trim and there's paint drips all over everything), tiny bathrooms and dark kitchen. Not to mention the staff in the office and the shady "terms" in your lease that only come into play when they're trying to get more money out of you for random fees. Also, they stopped taking money orders and did not alert everyone. Myself and several others ended up having to pay late fees because of failure to actively notify ALL the tenants that they are not accepting them anymore. All in all it might be okay as a first apartment by yourself, but I would recommend spending your money elsewhere
I never had any issues while living at West Wind Apartments and I lived there for 1 year. It was always quiet and the rent is reasonably priced. The only thing I didn't like was you don't have a washer and dryer in the apartment.
Hmmm where to start. How about the fact that there were dead ants over my sink, and within living here a week, found out we were being bit by something. Come to find out it was bed bugs- let me mention that before moving in I had my furniture steam cleaned and there were no problems before moving here. We tried to fix the problem ourselves because we didn't want strangers in our apartment when we weren't home. But because we waited to tell them after trying to fix the problem, they decided to charge us for $650.00 for them getting it done. After telling us they would take care of it and giving us the impression it would be solved worry free. Also the droppings were on the windowsill not the furniture, and Orkin said there were no traces on the furniture. So if you're looking to be ripped off and itchy, definitely come check out West Wind Apartments!
West wind's Internet is ridiculous, you only have one option when moving in, it's like 60 a month, which is way too much. Plus the Internet is slow, especially in the afternoon when people come home from work. Management doesn't do their job, they act friendly on arrival, and show their true colors after. Lying to people, and treating them with no respect. When paying rent the other day, office workers were screaming at an older woman and weren't polite. The apartment I moved into was barely clean, with mouse droppings and dead ants above the cupboards, the tracks for the drawers were improperly installed, maintenance has the right to burst into your room at anytime. After being super excited to move in here, the only positive thing I can say about this place was the landscaping was nice. Definitely not worth the money moving in here. And if you're a college student, the Internet isn't suitable for online classes, gaming is slow and laggy. Don't make the mistake moving here, you'll regret it.
This apartment is affordable and nice! It is in a convenient location, yet it is still very private. You can have a cat, and there is great internet (only slow somtimes). Never really bothered by neighbors, and can do my own thing! I would suggest it if you are just starting out.
Westwind Apartments has been my home for 2 years now, and I can truly say that I love my apartment. The rent is very affordable in comparison to other apartments in the Fort Wayne area, and most utilities are covered. I have access to anywhere in the city within approx. 20 minutes maximum, and I have quick access to the highway as well. The area is surprisingly quiet for being so close to the coliseum area, and the complex is located in a wooded area- much nicer to look at than buildings. I have also never had any major problems with noise. My apartment was very clean upon moving in, and I am still so grateful for the new appliances and carpeting/flooring as well. The onsite maintenance crew here is wonderful, so kind and quick to respond, and the management has always been very helpful, friendly, and prompt.
These apartments have a home-like vibe right when you walk in the door. I haven't had very many problems with neighbors or staff bothering me when unnecessary. I only thing I do not like about west wind apartments is how small they are for the price. Compared to c=Canterbury you can get a lot more. When my lease is up (October) I probably won't stick with West Wind, but it has been a good living experience for the most part.
I like the experience at West Wind Apartments. The staff have always been friendly and not bothersome, There is SOME crime, but not a lot. Basically what you get any where in Fort Wayne. The environment gives you a city and a country sort of feel. Most neighbors aren't too loud, and only some are crazy! Like I said it's fort wayne. The only thing I do not like about west wind is that the apartments are small compared to price, and dogs are not allowed. I think there should be a dog building, and the apartments need to be more reasonably priced. At Canterbury you get a two bath two bed for the same price as a two bed one bath at West Wind. Which is probably where I will end up. But I would reccomend West Wind for a cat person who doesn't need ALOT of room.
While these apartments are older than others in Fort Wayne, they're in a convenient location and are reasonable in price. Staff was always helpful and friendly.
