Property Ratings at Westville Village Apartments
My car window has been smashed 5 times, and a tire slashed in a so-called Gated Luxury Appt. Exit gate is always broken! You pay for a parking space and would expect your car to be safe let alone your safety in the parking garage..front desk personal are useless!
The vehicles are being broken into, and stolen numerous times. The repair team interrupts the tenant's life for weeks, repairing the bath room, which should be done before the tenants move in. It is not safe, and the property manager does not care.
Do not even consider this place. The ventilation dust in the unit has never been cleaned. When AC and heat are needed, all those dust and pollutants came out from the vent. Dust from your neighbors could also be bought to your apartment if you open your windows. Just see how often you have to vacuum the floor/carpet and you will see what I mean. I literally need to take allergy pills for staying here! Also, the crazily loud alarm went off far too often because the sprinkle system is too old and fragile.
I've lived in the Westville Village Apartments for several years. In comparison to most apartments in the New Haven area, rent is more affordable and Westville is an amazing community with nearby parks, incredible cafes, and easy access to downtown and other neighborhoods. However, the current management team has not done an adequate job in many regards and the complex has become somewhat unkempt and unsafe. I will likely be vacating my apartment later this year when my current lease ends. Specific issues as follows: 1. Maintenance issues take weeks to months to get resolved (if ever), and this comes from a tenant who's only asked for a handful of requests over a period of several years. It used to be much better when I first moved in, but that management team left. Since then, it has been pretty terrible, and the recent staff has largely been inattentive. 2. There are items of garbage all over the outdoor spaces. It also takes weeks to months for them to be cleaned. I will acknowledge that some of the issues are due to some tenants being disrespectful and not cleaning up after themselves. However, the management has also contributed to this attitude of carelessness. For instance, trash bins overflow and do not get cleared and therefore some people toss their trash on the floor. 3. There are major safety concerns. The complex is "gated", but one of the gates has been broken for years and remains open at all times. There are also large holes in the gates that have not been repaired. Theft has become common. The most significant issues include theft of car tires (occurred roughly a couple of years ago) and theft of cars (just happened). Many residents (including me) have had theft impact them on a smaller scale such stolen packages. They have had a security officer on and off, but I personally haven't found this helpful. I think this complex was great when I first moved in (4 stars). But given current lapses, I would rate this complex as just okay (2 stars) with the main positive aspects just being the convenience of its location. With better management, I think it has the potential to improve, but I've waited long enough without much change.
This is by far worst place I’ve ever lived at. The maintenance and office people are absolutely horrible and never get anything done on time. We’ve been facing issues with mice for over 2 weeks now and it’s been an absolute nightmare to get them to come to our apartment and setup traps and fill holes. The apartment right now is unhygienic and uninhabitable and no one seems to take this seriously. It takes them forever to get any minor or major issue fixed. The apartment is strictly OK at best. Please please please do not consider moving to this place.
These apartments are nicely updated and in a great safe location in Westville, New Haven CT. The office staff is great. Only downside is the fire alarms, but they just got approved for new piping so that should be fixed soon!
The fact that the fire alarms trigger constantly in the middle of the night is a huge bummer. Way too loud and can’t sleep. Trying to move away ASAP.
We just moved into our new apartment on 12/10 and the one thing I can confidently say is the property management actually appears to care about their tenants. I have worked with Cheryl since the day we were approved for the apartment and she has been a Rockstar for us answering all questions and problems we have. This did not end when we moved in, we opened the apartment door to a welcome package left by her and the rest of the front office. There were some issues when we moved in that were missed in the inspection just like any other apartment I have ever lived in. But I let her know she listened to every little or big thing I noted and made maintenance requests for me. If I forgot anything she quickly responds to my emails. I remain cautiously optimistic outside of this, I'm very happy with my apartment outside of a few things that need to be fixed then the complex is doing renovations at the moment so curious to see how everything turns out. But I really am happy overall and one of my biggest thing is having management that cares and I feel like we have that.
The parking garage floods too often. It floods even when there is no rain. The landlord never bothers to fix this problem. The fire alarm also goes off from time to time at night, and this issue is also not fixed. Water pipes broke and never got fixed. Come and live here, but this will also be your problem.
Management is the worst I've ever seen. If you have an issue, or even a package to pick up, it is never straightforward or easy. Maintenance workers are often hard to deal with and argumentative. You have to convince them to do their jobs. The apartments are ok, but not nice enough for the rent charged; materials are cheap and the work is not done carefully. The "gym," if you can call it that, has been closed due to the pandemic since March. Apparently no refund is going to be given to residents due to the inability to use that.
Do not move here!!! The apartments are nice and cheaply made. The maintenance here is horrible. They never fix issues in the apartment. They always make up a lie that they are so busy. You can't believe anything they say. Don't waste your money or your time!!!!
I moved into Westville on Friday. We signed a lease for a two bedroom apartment about six weeks ago. Everything seemed fine. We stopped in Friday to pick up the keys, and were told that the rent listed on the lease was off by $150. After two hours of fighting about it with the regional manager, we were told to either take the new rate or walk. We got them to knock off $25, they made a big show of "giving" us free parking for the year, and we begrudgingly took the offer. We were given one set of keys on Friday and told that we could pick up a second set of keys the following Monday. When we showed up on Monday to get the second keys, we were told it is the "standard policy" for tenants to make any additional keys beyond the first set. First off, that's absurd. Second, it would be have been nice if we were told the truth on Friday, and we could have made the keys this weekend. It already seems like one lie after another with these people. They lure you in with good prices and then act like complete halfwits thereafter.
I moved in to this unit on 7/7. This was supposed to be recently renovated but was clearly not completely ready. There were leftover materials from the renovation in the cupboards and the apartment was not very clean when I moved in (the fridge for example had caked on food in it under the shelves). The worst thing about this place is trying to get the maintenance office to do anything. I put in 2 minor work orders on 7/9 to replace a shelf and add blinds to the bedroom windows. It is now 7/20 and while my furniture has since arrived from my cross country move, these work orders have yet to be done. This is the worst place I have lived in terms of maintenance and responsiveness to service requests. I literally JUST moved in and shouldn't even have these requests and this is their performance. I will definitely be moving out if this level of service continues.
Westville is a great place to live. As amenities there is a on site gym with decent equipment, multi purpose game room with pool table and occasionally events in the complex. I have a 1 bedroom which is a nice size. Each apt has a dishwater, microwave, washer, dryer and central AC. You have your own key fob to enter the parking garage and your building so it is very safe (huge perk in new haven). Only negative is most utilities are separate. Overall very happy here.
