The Evansville West Side neighborhood makes living in Evansville affordable and attracts primarily students and working professionals. Everything a family could possibly need is in close proximity to the neighborhood. Its location next to the Ohio River Scenic Byway allows for convenient travel and commuting outside of the area.
Evansville serves as one of the larger trade areas for Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois. The cultural and commercial center provides health care, finance, education and manufacturing for these states. Its West Side area sits between the center of Evansville and the University of Southern Indiana, and residents can access both in just minutes. The excitement of the downtown area and the fast-paced atmosphere of inner-city life make the neighborhood a fun place to reside.

Property Ratings at Westwood Apartments
Do not rent here. When I initially moved in, the apartment hadn't even been cleaned after the previous tenant. The carpet was sticky, smelled of animal urine, had food particles stuck in it and looked like it hadn't been changed in at least 5 years. When I complained about this to my property manager, she just told me to spray lavender scented air freshener on the carpets. The apartment was also extremely dark, and my window air conditioner unit didn't work properly. After asking maintenance to fix it multiple times (which they said was done), my apartment then started growing mold everywhere and on all of my belongings. The apartment manager blamed this issue on me running my air conditioning too hot (not true) and finally had the maintenance people put a dehumidifier in the apartment (which despite running full blast never brought the humidity below 50%). Although I was able to finally break my lease, since all of the food I tried to store in the apartment was growing mold as well, I had to throw out all of my living room furniture, food, and other belongings (even my vacuum) that were irreparable due to the mold growing on or in them. The apartment manager only gave me back my $99 deposit (originally they said I would forfeit this, and they only changed their answer after I told them this was illegal) and did not reimburse me at all for all of the money (>$600) I lost in property, food and extra utilities (while running the dehumidifier and air conditioning at max speed for a month). They denied my request to prorate my rent for the remainder of the month that I moved out on. She then decided to change the locks on my apartment before 8/31 despite me paying that entire month's rent, not giving her my keys (and telling her I would return them at the end of the month), or doing a final walk through. Although these were the biggest issues, I had several other problems during my 8 month stay in these apartments. The grounds are overgrown and not well lit. The lock on my bedroom window had to be "fixed" 3 times (and I'm on a 1st floor unit and thus at risk for a break-in). Maintenance never called to indicate when they would be coming to my apartment and never left a work order behind after coming each time (and basically everything that needed to be fixed required them coming multiple times because they didn't fix the issue the first time). I had a package stolen from my doorstep, and other tenants or their guests threw litter into my outdoor plants.
