A quiet residential area, the Westwood neighborhood can be found northwest of the city center by three miles. Because it sits close to US Highway 131 and 43, the community provides a convenient neighborhood to enjoy daily life while remaining close to the city and within easy distance of Grand Rapids and Lake Michigan. Because Kalamazoo sits halfway between Chicago and Detroit, reaching those larger cities via Interstate 94 continues to be easy.
One of the things Kalamazoo has become nationally known for, the Kalamazoo Promise provides a four-year scholarship for all graduates of Kalamazoo Public Schools who have spent at least their high school years in the school system. In addition to the community college, Western Michigan University and the private Kalamazoo College call the city home. There are affordable rentals ranging from single-family homes to modern apartments.

Property Ratings at Wildwood off Main
Since being bought out by UV, there has been a decline in the quality of living. Rent was raised significantly (around $300) immediately and amenities have not been well maintained. Last summer, the pool became inoperable and flooded the fitness center. The pool was not available the entire summer, despite having paid the amenities fee. Fitness center equipment is outdated and oftentimes, in disrepair. At one point, the fitness center was closed for at least 2 weeks, due to them needing to paint it. Instead of investing in modern fitness equipment, ensuring the pool is functional and making sure the nature trails and paths are cleared, they are trying to bring bee keeping to the community instead; something I am doubtful anyone in the community asked for. On a positive note, it is in a convenient place, close to shopping, downtown, campus and the highways.

Long review ahead: Pros: 1. No hallways/shared hallways with neighbors 2. Individual doors and entries 3. Mostly pet friendly 4. Large dog park 5. Away from the hustle and bustle/a bit safer than a lot of Kzoo, but still close enough for shopping/restaurants Somewhat of a trail around complex that circles around Western’s edge of campus Cons: (A LOT) 1. Management change from December 2021 is awful!!! UV Residential as the “parent company” is not the best 2. The age of these buildings REALLY show (built in the 1980s)—creaky floors, falling apart and wobbly staircases with wood peeling, outside appearance not great with many paint chips and wood splintering 3. High rent increase, almost $300+ a month in most units with (yes its great but) some “renovations” and newer appliances—honestly 1b1b goes for about the same price as late 2010 apartments 4. Neighbors hit or miss with how nice or quiet they are (or if they follow lease rules such as smoking, vaping, or having drugs when it’s a drug and smoke free complex) *many cigarette butts across complex* 5. TRASH COMPACTOR ALWAYS OVERFLOWING AND DOG STATIONS AROUND WHOLE COMPLEX ARE ALWAYS FULL WITH NO LIDS 6. Slow maintenance, including no AC for a week (cause apparently its not an emergency maintenance call?) when weather would hit mid 90s 7. Pool was closed the whole summer before leaving, and they let it get green and gross 8. Rec center is a bust—old equipment and none of the TVs or speakers ever worked when I had gone in the past. Bad airflow with no AC or heat 9. Very limited parking—with many guests still park in tenant parking when its just tenant hours only leaving tenants to search for spots 10. Winter months are awful. Slow to plow the complex so good luck getting out if you do not have a large vehicle… Sidewalks and stairs are rarely done by maintenance 11. Grounds: landscaping/lawn care lacks with lots of overgrowth near the trails and around sidewalks… one fountain did not run the whole time of the 1 year lease out of the two fountains in the ponds (pond that did not have a fountain water is fairly gross). Broken bridge (might be fixed now). Old signage from Greenhill still. 12. New website is misleading with stock imagery! Overall impression: better off renting in the heart of the college area for cheaper than deal with all of this. I did for a while and that was a better experience than this was ever.
We were very excited to sign onto the waitlist here as it seemed like a lovely place to live. Soon after we signed onto the waitlist and put down our $300 deposit to keep our spot as well as “locked in rate” we received notice that all prices were going to increase by $300 a month. The notice said that every unit would be renovated and we could sign on for more money or wait with the current amount in hopes of a classic unit becoming available - with the knowledge that no classic units were intended to be available (basically fork over more money or get off the list). We neglected to sign this amendment as we had a previous legal agreement with Wildwood that they should have honored. In addition during the tour, renovations were mentioned at the current rate - I do not know if the leasing agent had no knowledge of what new management (UV Residential) would do or if that was a blatant lie. We then were given notice that all amenity prices would be increasing and were told to sign that. At that point we realized that they were intentionally pushing those who had signed onto the waitlist at a lower price off the waitlist through intimidation of higher prices. When we withdrew our names from the waitlist the reason for leaving was listed as “financial troubles” - this is simply not true. We removed ourselves from the waitlist because we had no desire to rent from shady management that incurred an onslaught of hidden fees. We have been off the waitlist for some time now and I have now received a new notification that they intend to host what I can only deem to be bidding wars for units. The notice indicates that prices will raise daily and to put down your deposit as soon as possible for the unit you want - thus I assume the waitlist has been torn apart completely by them not honoring their previous contracts. Sure, rental prices are raising across the country. I still take issue with renting from those who are dishonest and exploit renters assuming they have no knowledge of their rights. I would not advise moving forward with this company unless you want your “locked in” rental rate to continue increasing until you are forced to find a new home.
The staff is amazing! They are knowledgeable friendly and super caring! Any issues I’ve had are resolved mega fast! LOVE living here ??

I've lived here for five years, I'm moving out this month and I will MISS IT. Pros: + It's safe and people are super friendly. + Surrounded by green and forest with trails, it's peaceful. + Close to WMU campus and downtown Kalamazoo. + Front desk staff is amazing and always answered my questions fast. + Maintenance staff is wonderful and fast, always get the job done. + Pool is clean and never overcrowded or noisy. + Updated appliances, great balconies. + Pricey compared to others, but worth it. Cons: - Floors/ceilings are paper thin, pray you don't get noisy neighbors. I struggled with this constantly, but the staff is willing to hear you out and help. - No rules on smoking. Neighbors below me smoke and it comes up through the windows and floor. - Close to WMU campus, sometimes fireworks from games, events, or loud students Overall rating, 5/5, I recommend this place highly!

While I was not able to move into an apartment due to my employer moving me across the country, Greenhill Apartments would have been my favorite place to live. There is a wait-list for the apartment of your choice, so be sure to sign up early and reserve a spot. The grounds were very well kept and very quite. There are walking trails around the complex as well as a dog park and entertainment area. The area is quite nice as well; super close to Trader Joe's and Costco. The sample unit I viewed was a 1-bedroom and it was spacious! Each unit comes with a laundry room and washer/dryer combo, or you could bring your own (dryer is gas). The kitchen was crisp with ample cabinet space and a ton of drawers. And there's a breakfast bar, so if you don't want to get a table, no worries. I would recommend stool seating, not regular chairs. The living area has a gas fireplace that lets out a ton of heat. It's got a mantle that's quite sturdy and can handle a 60" TV with gaming consoles on it. And there's a tiny deck/porch with each unit. The bedroom can fit a queen comfortably with one dresser. The closet is deceptively large, so don't freak out when you see how small the doors look, it's deeper than most closets. And there are hall closets for stuff. You can also rent a garage for storage of your car or more stuff. Each place has it's own surface parking space. Each unit has it's own personal address (no Unit A, 1 or anything like that). And the main office can sign/hold your packages. All in all, I'm a little sad I won't be living there. I was super excited to move in. They let you paint/hang anything on the walls (as long as you put a layer of primer up before you leave).

Thankful for the growth in my career, moreover the comfort of living I have had at Greenhill apartments. As a young professional it is ideal for my home location to be perfect. Greenhill was all of that and a bag of chips. Work by day, then able to use the fitness center amenities 24 hours a day kept my time management and endurance on track. Because the property is large compared to others in the area, I enjoyed walking around taking in the views and even getting to know my neighbors. Garage rental availability was amazing. And my favorite features are the ponds. I recommend Greenhill apartments to anyone working a wellness (balanced) lifestyle.

The buildings are nice, for the most part clean, and have a very cozy feeling to them. The apartment community as a whole is incredibly friendly. There are many dogs around, and the dog park located within the complex is a fun place to go. However, the Greenhill Apartments management staff is incredibly difficult to work with. At each and every turn they have deplorable communication skills both among themselves and with their customers/tenants. In particular, the property manager shows utter incompetence and the assistant property manager is downright rude to tenants. They put on a great show trying to get you to sign a lease, but once you are locked into a contract, they could care less about meeting your needs as their customers. I would recommend going elsewhere with your money.

Ever since I moved out I have lived at campus apparents. Iv always had loud and obnoxious neighbors, and 86936 stairs to climb. By the 3 year I was over it.When searching for a new place to live away from campus, greenhill apartments was the first place I toured. With beautiful scenery, well kept homes, I fell in love. The standard was set. Every apartment I looked at didn't compare to greenhill. After living here for about a month, I am still satisfied with my decision. The staff is amazing, pool is clean, neighbors are...well I haven't met them yet...anyways, greenhill apartments by far is a great place to live and I seriously couldn't be happier.
We really like living here. We have been here for about 4 years. It is peaceful and quiet. The back balcony faces a wooded area. We see many deer in the fall and winter and the summer sounds like a rain forest with the sounds of nature. It is really pleasant to have peace of nature in a an urban setting. The size of the apartment is great for 2 people, with a full and half bath and decent sized bedrooms and closets. We like to cook and find the kitchen to be a great size and lay out, with a lot of storage space. The only complaints we would have are the lack of lighting. There is no overhead lighting in the bedrooms and the lighting in the bathrooms and closets is really minimal. The full bathroom is below ground with no ventilation, so it is pretty damp and mildewy. We have to keep a dehumidifier running constantly to keep up with the dampness in the summer. Finally, the last complaint would be the old, tired carpets. They are very worn and despite our steam cleaning efforts, are not very clean. We have a lot of throw rugs to cover. Overall, the good far out ways the complaints and we have no plans to move any time soon.
I just recently moved in and I absolutely love it. It's spacious, quiet and I'm surrounded by nature. I love how clean it its (the whole place),how friendly my neighbors are and the the several things greenhill offers like a pool, gym, volleyball court, trails, dog parks and several other things. It was the first place I toured while searching, they set the standards.....and won.
I love these apartments. I would say they are the best option in Kalamazoo. Close to WMU and K College and very dog friendly! Perfect if you are looking for a quiet place.
Greenhill apartments has been great so far. The facilities are pretty well kept and so are the grounds. Fitness room has a decent amount of equipment though the treadmills feel like they need some work. The units are pretty spacious and have lots of storage options. Washer/dryer and dishwasher are a little outdated but still work well. Overall awesome apartment complex for the price!
