Property Ratings at Winchell Way
Me, my husband, and our two cats really love this property! We originally moved in 2020 right during the lockdown and office staff was very nice and conscientious. Apartments are upkept very well by Terry and things get corrected within a couple days if there's problems. The leasing office folk are kind and quick to answer questions or solve problems. I changed my name last year and they didn't misname me once! Price has been creeping up about 100 a year for new leases. The building got sold I think, hoping this new building owner isn't as controlling as the last one was.
Property Manager at Winchell Way, Responded To This Review
Thank you so much for sharing your positive experiences with Terry and Melissa in the office! We are thrilled that we have been able to quickly assist you in all your needs in the past and look forward to continuing that same great service. Although we have not changed owners or management companies, you may see a new face in the office and on the maintenance team. Please continue to let us know of anything we can do to help you and thank you again for this review! Kayla, Winchell Way Property Director
Clean healthy atmosphere. Solid maintenance staff and the best office staff in Kalamazoo.
I've lived here at Winchell Way for almost a year now and I have zero plans of moving in the near future. Between the wonderful office staff, the 24/7 emergency maintenance and the overall pricing/location, it cannot be beat! I am lucky enough to have a third floor unit with a fireplace and frankly, an awesome view over the small marsh they have on property. Being a Western student, it was difficult for me to find housing on/near campus that was quiet enough for me to focus on my studies along with having some peaceful down time, but I genuinely lucked out with Winchell Way. I barely ever even hear my neighbors unless I'm walking through the hallways. It is also a tremendous plus that the complex is located right off of Asylum Lake nature preserve. I am constantly walking my go through the trails over taking him over to the on-site dog park to blow off some steam. I will have very high expectations for any future apartment complexes...
I have lived here for just over a year now and I absolutely love it! I plan on being here for a long time! I love the office staff and they’re all very friendly and the maintenance guys are just as friendly! They greet me by name and always wave whenever they see me around the property. The apartments and grounds are well maintained and looks absolutely beautiful year around! I love that the complex is hidden in the woods so there’s plenty of nature to enjoy! I also love the fact that many people don’t know about Winchell Way so there’s never that much traffic! I would recommend this place to anyone who loves peace and quiet!
My husband and I moved in to our 2 bedroom back in 2013 and we love it here. At first I DID NOT want to move since our old place was on the third floor, but the apartment we got has a lake view (which made it a little pricier but I have zero regrets)so, worth it. We love it so much here that we're staying until we're ready to buy a house. It's so beautiful and it's right off Asylum lake and the hiking trails. The apartment itself is quiet, although I do sometimes hear the old lady who lives above me walking around, but it's really nothing crazy. Plus we know it's just part of apartment living no matter where you go. The grounds are always gorgeous, they do a seriously super job making sure it looks nice to come home to. The dog park is THE BEST THING EVER for dog owners. You can take your dog over and let him run around off leash in the secured area so he gets all of his energy out and you're not dying. The maintenance guys are seriously ON TOP OF IT. At our old complex we got really used to waiting a week or two for a work-order to be done but the guys here are surprisingly fast. Like, two days and it's done fast. And they'll schedule with you if you need to which I appreciate, too. They just switched over to new office staff about a year ago and I actually really like the new girls in the office better. They're always really nice and helpful and they seem way more organized now because my rent gets cashed immediately which is super helpful for me since I budget everything. They also started doing cookies and coffee which I personally love. The apartments themselves are really nice, obviously a little dated, but I already knew that going in from our tour. I genuinely appreciated the whole "what you see is what you're getting" with the model because what you see in the model is legit what you're going to get. Our old place had a gorgeous model and a crap-hole for an apartment. All of the apartments I've seen (our friends also lived here in a 1 bed) are well maintained so it actually doesn't FEEL outdated. Plus they allow you to paint if you prime it when you move out which is awesome. Overall, me, my husband, and our fur babies really love it here. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is just because I really wish I had my own washer/dryer in my apartment instead of having to go downstairs. It's not HORRIBLE nor is it a deal breaker considering everything else that's pretty awesome about the place, but I'd seriously never leave if I just had that.
I lived here until I moved to Arizona. I loved this community. It is so beautiful. Next to asylum lake and trails to walk. The apartments nice and spacious. It did need new appliances, but everything worked so I didn't need to complain. I loved that they offered storage spaces in the basement so I had everything nearby. The office staff was friendly and maintenance was never an issue and the staff really tried to keep the community clean and really seemed to care.
My roommate and I were originally supposed to move in May 15th. The time comes to get our paperwork (end of April) and they say we aren't supposed to move in until June 15th. June rolls around and we call to see if we can see our apartment before we move in. They say that they've been contacting us for weeks and that they had an early opening and that now our apartment is being leased by someone else. My roommate had one phone call, and I had zero. We had all the paperwork telling us when to move in, and we put down our deposit, and they tell us that since we weren't ready to move in early, they leased it out to someone else. Made no sense and was definitely illegal and unprofessional. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Very poor management and they tried blaming us for not being able to move in in May even though we weren't supposed to until June.
I have been living here with my husband for the past 4 years and he has lived in this complex for longer. We have a great view of Asylum Lake and the Asylum Lake Nature Preserve, lovely landscaping, a dog run, and a great pool. Decent sized bedrooms and closet space, but appliances are a little bit older. Great space that is close to downtown and Western Michigan University without being loud or disruptive. Recommended for older students, young professionals, and small families.
This complex is next to the Asylum Lake nature preserve and offers gorgeous sunsets, quiet evenings, and lots of fresh air. The buildings themselves are very secure and solid, although the appliances and fixtures are in need of an upgrade. Priced decently for this area, the apartments offer spacious floor plans with large sliding glass doors that bring in plenty of natural light. Great for serious college students, working professionals, or even small families.
