Property Ratings at Winchester Place Apartments
I recently sent an Email to this complex, they told me to contact them around the first of Sept. I replied to the original email at that time and said I was still interested in renting. No email back, I waited a week and tried calling, only got the answering service and left a message, no call back. If they treat perspective tenants this way its a wonder how they treat the current ones. The least they could do is email/call back stating they still dont have anything open. This place is no place I want to live with the way they treated me.
So many things that could be done differently for the better. Everything is constantly broken or in a dilapidated state: just this past month alone we have had 2 incidents of no water during peak times (morning and evening) that have taken multiple hours to fix. Currently we have had no heating or cooking gas for the past 3 days, and the pay-per-use laundry machines are notorious for never working when you need them. In the winter the snow blowing and plowing is a joke.. walkways don't get cleared until hours after most people need to leave for work/school. Judy will tell you there's a plowing schedule for the parking lots but that is never enforced -- keep a heavy duty shovel in your trunk for when you inevitably need to dig your car out of the parking spot. Parking spots are numbered on the ground, which is real genius considering it snows for 5 months out of the year.. they should invest in parking signs instead. Walkways and parking lots are also never salted well, making it very dangerous.. at night you need to use your phone's flashlight to look where you're walking so you don't slip on ice in the major dips of the concrete. The walls are paper thin and squirrels crawl their way into the roof and constantly run back and forth. This place wasn't ALL bad, but it's not that great either. It's very close to downtown Portsmouth and the local public schools are walking distance which was nice.
This is a perfect place for right out of college. The landlord was great but the premise tends to get dirty. You also have a lot of people who are low income living here but you wouldn't know it. Most people keep to themselves. The bathroom is my biggest complaint. We asked five times for the bathroom tub to be fixed because if was coming off of the wall. They claimed to have fixed it a few times but it came off again. They also told us changed from 30 days vacancy to 45 and then 60. We were able to get this worked out though!
Winchester has come a long way from what I've heard. I was a college graduate and my Roomate and I needed a place that was good size, 2 bedroom, and was affordable. It was just a plus that it's an $8 cab ride to downtown square Portsmouth. The only thing that isn't as nice as I'd hoped is the bathroom but just because it's older. However the maintence guys are always there to help and in a very timely fashion. The office woman are a joy as well and I am overall very happy with my experience here at Winchester. I would give it 4 stars and only because of the bathroom. I recommend this apartment to anyone who's looking for an affordable 2 bedroom, close to downtown apartment!
