Holland and Zeeland are neighboring towns in western Michigan off the shore of Lake Michigan. Most of the area is rural and filled with wooded spaces and farmland, but the commercial parts of Holland/Zeeland are situated between both towns in the southern section of Highway 31. The commercial section of town features plenty of modern amenities and entertainment like hotels, restaurants, big-box stores, grocers, and more. A theme park, gardens, and trails along Macatawa River are located in the area as well. More outdoor recreation is provided by Lake Michigan and Grand Rapids, which is only 30 miles northwest.

Property Ratings at Windmill Lakes Apartments
Staff was horrible, asked to fix a leak for over a year never fixed, black mold, ladies in the office were a nightmare. Circa 2012

It's located right in the heart of town so stores are all close by. Utilities with the exception of electric are included in rent and apartment amenities(washer/dryer, stove, central air) are great. The grounds are kept in immaculate condition and when it snows the parking lots and sidewalks are cleared in a quick and timely manner. Important for us early risers who have to be at work long before the sun comes up. Interior of apartments is clean upon move in and is responsibility of tenants to keep it that way. Anytime I had a maintenance issue it was taken care of right away in a quick courteous manner. Don't know why all the negative reviews. Can only imagine that these tenants either don't pay their rent on time or are used to living in Buckingham Palace being waited on by servants. As for me I've lived here a few years now and plan to continue to do so. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Greg, thank you for your in-depth review of Windmill Lakes Apartments! We are glad that you are enjoying your home and have had such great interactions with our maintenance team! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to come by our office! Thanks again for the five-star review and recommendation!
I have now lived in two of these apartments both one bedroom and a two. I thought the one bedroom was in need of a serious update with the tiny tiny washer and dryer crammed in the kitchen... then I went to the two bedroom (even when picking the more expensive option) I was mortified. The appliances so much older, master shower tiny, master closet tiny, and one issue after another. Things breaking left and right. An odd smell in the second bedroom like a cat peed and nobody cleaned it. The staff so unprofessional and ill mannered it was difficult to get anything fixed. Carrie was the worst. And the pictures on the website... my lord. So misleading.
Just to let you know, I am a single senior lady who lived in this complex for 9 years and just absolutely loved living here. I lived on the first floor, one bedroom. Maintenance was great, office people were great, just pay your rent on time and you will be fine!! Loved the nature of the pond, birds and animals.
If you are looking for your first apartment don’t be fooled by this apartment complex. First Ladies in office have a attitude every time we talk to them. Second there are people that break in cars over here. Third other residents don’t care if they are loud. Fourth you find scratches on your car from someone keying it. Fifth they hassle you if you have a ESA even when you bring them a paper from your doctor saying you need a ESA. Sixth they tried to tell me I broke my lease by having a car with no plate on it (renewing it the same day). Seventh they have horrible service for ants or any other bug related incident in the winter cause they only come once a month. Eighth they never told us how much the internet we are aloud to have bandwidth wise. So if you are looking for a nice place I wouldn’t recommend windmill lakes.
I am not sure what the other reviewers were comparing their experience to but we cannot say enough good things about Windmill Lakes. The entrance to the complex makes a wonderful impression and that impression continues as you drive through the entire grounds. Maintenance on both the grounds and the buildings is always top notch as are the individual apartments. All decor is neutral so any color scheme makes your residence feel like home. My experience with the staff has all been good. If I needed a repair or had a question my e mail was always answered shortly after the office opened. I can only conclude the residents who, left these dissatisfied reviews had an issue perhaps they brought upon themselves by not abiding by the rules each of us agree to when signing the renters contract. My husband and I feel it is one of the best run apartment complex in Holland.
The ladies in the office obviously hate their jobs and definitely show it. They are very snotty in person and over the phone. Each time, it feels like a burden to talk to them to get more information or just to get help. It feels like I bother them each time I try to reach out to them. If you are going to live here, make sure you have a high tolerance for snotty, bitter girls working in the office. Especially when there is a monthly payment, there shouldn't have to be the difficulty of going thru these type of people for it.
Dirty carpet and old furnishings, rude staff Stay away from this apartment
This is one of the worst apartment complexes in Holland, MI. Very old apartments with shabby carpeting and furnishings. The Management is horrible and office staff is unprofessional and ill mannered. They behave as if they do not need any tenants....Not at all recommended....
This is probably the worst possible place to stay in Holland, MI. If you do not have any other option in Holland you can stay here for a while but do not stay for long. The apartments are shabby and very very old. The carpets are pre-historic and dirty. The office staff behavior is appalling and seems as if they are doing you a big favor by speaking with you. They are extremely rude and not at all professional. If they need to grow and compete with other apartments in Holland, change of office staff is in immediate need. Otherwise, they would drive away the existing tenants also. Not at all recommended !!!
the upkeep here is okay snow plowing is good a nice place to live.. however locked into Dish ONLY 200 channels 50 infomercial.. Michigan law says they must let us have a choice, but somehow they get away with it.. if you are okay with paying more you can get good channels!! can't wait to move out A.S.A.P.!!
Grounds are good, well kept normally in nice weather. Could use a little more attention in winter months. The staffing and attention to detail in normal considerate business practice is lacking. Professionalism should be upgraded. Maintenance repairs are slow.
