With a population of about 101,000, Las Cruces is the largest city in southern New Mexico -- but it doesn't feel that way. With its fantastic mountain views and spacious landscape, the city feels downright cozy. Las Cruces is a college town -- it is the location of New Mexico State University, the only land-grant university in the state. It is also the location of the White Sands Missile Range. Mountains surround Las Cruces, providing amazing views as well as opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and camping.
Due to its impressive landscape, Las Cruces is often used for filming. Some movies filmed here include Hang 'Em High, Twins, and Traffic. After moving to a Las Cruces apartment, be sure to attend some of the city's annual events, which include the Harvest Wine Festival, the Whole Enchilada Fiesta, the Southern New Mexico State Fair, CrucesCon, and Cowboy Days. Landmarks in Las Cruces include its water towers -- many are painted with murals.

Property Ratings at Woodcrest Apartments
We've lived at this complex for close to 10 years now and it started out just fine for the price being charged. The manager was easy to get in touch with if we did have an issue (which we rarely did). I very much liked the trees that we used to have as they would help provide some shade on the outdated swamp coolers that constantly break down multiple times over the summer. They have solar power for the small poolhouse thing though for some reason. We've had holes and property damage in our apartment's due to leakages from others living around us and have gone without being fixed for years now. They seldom give a 24 hour notice when they're going to change anything in the apartments either. A more recent developments is that the current property manager has been nearly impossible to get ahold of and they do absolutely nothing about the new tenants who will disturb the peace up to 2-6 AM. We've also gotten a notice that the rent will be increasing and there's been absolutely zero efforts to warrant the increases. Do not move here unless you're desperate and don't care if your neighbors keep you up till 6 in the morning and you don't mind your water being shut off randomly with little to no warning.
This property is in poor shape. I remember when there used to be grass in front, and now it's just dirt. Some people don't pick up their dog poop, and maintenance won't do it, because they're short-staffed as is (I think they're down to two people for the entire complex). I've seen some residents taking it upon themselves to clean up others dog poop. Management is difficult to get ahold of, for literally anything, and leaves the voicemail box FULL on purpose so no one can leave messages. The neighborhood has gotten bad, despite what everyone says: "Las Cruces has always been this way." No, it hasn't. I've lived here since 2014 and it used to be quiet. Now, I hear police sirens, gunshots, and arguments all the time. I know these units are "Smoke Free Inside", but that doesn't stop the neighbors from smoking so much weed, it seeps UP THROUGH THE VENTS and makes your apartment smell strong. The rent keeps going up like everywhere else, so you're paying A LOT for a dump.
This place is kind of pricey. The dumpster is always over flowing causing the trash blow around the parking lot. Parking is tight, and the air conditioning isn't great. My apart is really hot most of the summer, and it's worse if it rains.
We have been living at Woodcrest or LC Property rentals for about 2 months. The Good: Celeste is amazing, she works hard to make this place a better home for everyone. Work orders get completed within 1-10 days of putting them in, depending on if work needs to be subcontracted out. The Pool is refreshing. Trash service come weekly on Fridays. Pet pick up station conveniently located throughout the property so dog owners can clean up after their pets mess. The swamp coolers keep the place around 73-ish F. There is a fireplace. The kitchen looks similar to every apartment kitchen in Cruces. Having a Dishwasher is nice. Solar panels reduces your energy bill. They pay utilities such as water, sewer, trash. You pay Electric, Gas and Internet/cable. The internet speed here is fast. You can always find a parking spot. The price is at a competitive reasonable price for comparable apartment units, given what is in the area. The Bad: When we first arrived our apartment was not prepared for us. We worked with the management and they quickly replaced the carpets and fixed a huge list of issues with the place. To save on money there was no re-paint of our unit. LC property rental only has one office manager for 3 apartment complexes. We have issues with neighbors who smoke, despite LC property rentals advertising the place is smoke-free. The Management has done a good job of talking to the neighbors so we smell less cigarette smoke, but occasionally we still have to deal with smoking neighbors. There is NO RECYCLING serivce. However, the gas station on the corner has recycling, so there is no excuse to not recycle plastics 1 & 2 or aluminum and steel cans. The Best Features of the WoodCrest Apartments: in-unit Washer and dryers. It is a very nice amenity and why we like our apartment so much. Young Park which is conveniently located across the street. Sprouts supermarket about 1 block away. Dona Ana community college is up the block. Central location of the apartment to local businesses is a very nice feature. Other than the occasional car driving by blasting their music, this place is Quiet! There are a lot of families here, and I don't hear my neighbors, which makes it a great place for students and families who like quiet. On my mixed feelings. I would say if your willing to be patient and work with the management, this place is adequately good for what Las Cruces has to offer.
I stopped by the office to check out a 1 bedroom unit for a possible move. Unfortunately, plans changed and I didn't end up signing a lease. But these apartments are pretty great for the price they're asking. I checked out a 1 bedroom and the rent was super affordable. The manager Nikita was informative and followed up with me after the visit to see if I had any questions regarding the application process or the unit itself. The unit was great, just what I was looking for and more. It had a washer, dryer, and fireplace.....score! I had some family issues come up so ended up changing my mind about moving right now, but I'm definitely going to keep them in mind for when I'm ready. This spot is definitely worth checking out
I recently moved from a place that I mistakenly thought was safe. I found Woodcrest and jumped at the chance to move in. The apartments are spacious. 2 bedroom, 2 bath and a washer and dryer in the unit. The manager is such a sweet lady and the maintenance men are on spot. As a widow and mother I now feel safe and can relax in this wonderful apartment complex that also has easy access to shopping and the park.
