Offering streets lined with palm trees and spectacular mountain views, Midway is one of Escondido's favorite neighborhoods. You'll find Midway on the east side of downtown between Ash Street and South Citrus Avenue. Midway apartments provide a gorgeous setting with plenty to do, from visiting nearby San Diego Zoo Safari Park to shopping along Valley Parkway. Travel a few blocks west to visit the California Center for the Arts, Escondido or to go shopping downtown along Grand Avenue. This gorgeous shopping strip features huge trees, wide sidewalks, and historical architecture.
The Midway neighborhood has easy access to I-15, which leads to San Diego, 33 miles south. Take Washington Avenue to Highway 78 to reach the California coast, roughly 20 miles away. When you prefer to hike or go horseback riding in the mountains, head just 12 miles east to Hellhole Canyon Preserve or 20 miles to Cleveland National Forest.

Property Ratings at Woodlake
You get what you pay for I guess. I moved in December 2020. I didn’t mind the outdated appliances or the fact that a lot of my apartment was really banged up when I moved in. But my first night in, my shower didn’t work, my dishwasher was disgusting and rusted out, and my kitchen sink leaked majorly. I have had to submit maintenance requests almost once a week. So far I have had to have my kitchen sink fixed 4 times, my shower fixed twice, all my electrical outlets replaced, my water heater replaced, my dishwasher replaced, my ceiling fan replaced, and my front door fixed twice (pending a 3rd maintenance request because my door won’t lock). Oh! And I forgot to mention roaches. Yay! Management is rude and useless. Parking is always a nightmare and not enforced. Some people have 3-4 cars that they park inside, leaving no guest spaces for anyone. I wanted to love it here. I really did. But my god I have been through the ringer since I moved in. The ONLY saving grace is Mike who does the maintenance. He’s always right on it and always goes the extra mile. Wish I could take him with me to wherever I move next. Avoid this place at ALL COSTS.
I moved here to feel safe because the apartment complex is surrounded by a gate. I no longer feel safe. The gates continue to break. The car gates are either broken open for he world to come in or are unresponsive to the gate clicker, making you have to drive to a different entrance just to park inside. It's a huge inconvenience. Even the side gates have been broken to where you can't close them shut, allowing anyone to be able to enter without a key. If someone gets their apartment broken into, I wouldn't be surprised.
I've been a resident for 2 years and the parking is terrible!! If you have two cars good luck finding parking for your second car. There are currently spots being taken up for a trailer with kayaks, unregistered cars that haven't moved for months, and they are allowing a lady to rent a one bedroom apartment park 3 cars.... My room mate and I have to compare schedules to use our assigned spot carefully so we can park both cars, yet sometimes we still have to park on the street. I would give this place zero stars if I could, they deserve it.
Bugs, Loud neighbors, Police called in the middle of the night, these are all things I've dealt with multiple times in a year and a half while at Woodlake Apartments. In the last year things have seemed to go down hill further and further. Repairs are done, but not always finished/done correctly and they seem to waste quite a bit of water during the drought.... I would suggest trying to look elsewhere for for a place to rent. I know I am.
I have been a satisfied resident for a number of years, all I can say is that this is truly an outstanding community in which to live. Carrie is an absolutely first rate manager, and is always seeking to find new ways to improve an already great living situation for those who live here. The regular themed lunches, brunches, and barbeques that she and her talented team put on for residents make everyone here feel like real neighbors and only add to the warm, friendly atmosphere. On rare occasions when I've needed something fixed, or even just simply looked into, Carrie and her team are always on top of it, immediately schedule it, and she will even personally go out and inspect what was brought to their attention to ensure that it was fully taken care of and to the satisfaction of myself and other residents. The same level of dedication and professionalism can be said of all of the on site maintenance people here, as well. In sum, Woodlake is a generally quite enclave filled with magnificent tall trees and a lush green environment, and can be a nice oasis to come home to at the end of the day. The apartments are spacious, the amenities ample, and the place just can't be beat for the money. If you're contemplating moving to a community where you can simply have a chance to put down some roots and stay awhile, this place may just be it!
