West Des Moines is located in three Iowa counties. Residents of this area enjoy perusing the local shops at Valley Junction, which began in 1893. Today it serves as the city’s business district, flavored by undeniable community tradition. With more than 100 specialty shops, art galleries, and restaurants, there’s always something new to discover.
On the other side of West Des Moines, Jordan Creek Town Center occupies a large fashion space that includes a 3.5-acre lake and boardwalk. Many apartments are just minutes from the mall’s stores, movie theater, and lakeside restaurants. The city is located in America’s heartland and has cherished quilting since its existence. Quilt-making goes back to the 18th century in West Des Moines, and many people proudly display their creations at city craft expos.
In addition to quilting, residents of West Des Moines enjoy the local productions at Tallgrass Theatre Company on Vine Street.

Property Ratings at Woodland Place Apartments
The Remodeled Units are very nice! The new manager and new maintenance person are awesome! We would highly recommend. -Jen (4 year tenant)
When things break down here or need repair they take at least 10 days to fix it. And the maintenance man live on site. And you have to give them a reminder call for them to even pay attention to your repair request. Roaches all over the kitchen. Whatever Pest Control spraying they do is not good at all. They just spray the floor a bit and leave.
From day 1, working with Tina has been an absolute nightmare. She is extremely unprofessional and does not care about doing right by any tenant. She makes it impossible to communicate with her, as she will complain about you contacting her anytime outside of office hours. She often refuses to even answer at all and completely neglects questions or issues so that she doesn't have to deal with things. She will tell you that you're lying about any issue, she'll charge you for her mistakes, and she's notorious for saying she notified tenants of entry, or other happenings when she actually never did or she had incorrect information on the notice - and again, she'll blame you for her mistake. She's also sexist and rude to females but treats men with instant respect and courtesy. There is no one else you're allowed to work with, and she is a horrible excuse for a property manager. I cannot wait to get out of here and never look back.
When I was initially apartment searching in the WDM area, I was extremely frustrated talking to different places about the potential of breaking the lease because of a job, as none were forgiving and kept giving me write-ups of "fees" associated with breaking a lease early. Luckily I found Woodland Place Apartments - and signed with them the very next day! The property is privately owned, meaning fewer tenants; high expectations of cleanliness & quiet hours; very quick responses by the on-site manager; and no issues with mail or packages delivered being stolen or going missing! Bonus - their updated kitchen / bathroom amenities are AMAZING! No other place even came close! There are cameras on either side of the building so I never had to worry about my safety or a break-in. There is also a beautiful park right across the street convenient for kids as well as pet owners. Speaking of pets, they were very accommodating for my dog! The entire experience was easy, stress-free, and so much more affordable than any other place I found within a 15-mile radius. Extremely grateful to Tom, the owner, and Tina the onsite manager for such an awesome experience and pleasant living environment!
Not a resident but I wanted to look at the apartment to sign a lease for my upcoming move to Des Moines. I talked with the staff about meeting on a Saturday and she insisted I call an hour ahead of time to make sure I was coming. I did just that and called one hour before arriving. We got there a little early and no one was there. Called again and no response. No one showed up or even called me back from the message I left. Wasted a trip to Des Moines and a few hours of my time. Disappointed.
We are still currently living here but will be moving soon due to buying a house. We're honestly sad to be moving, but we were ready to buy our own home. We've lived here since October 2015 and I've got to say this is by far the best apartment complex I've ever lived in. Within the past two years we've had ZERO complaints. The staff takes pride in their property and is always updating and making the place home. Plus, it's right next to 235 so easy access to anywhere in the metro yet still secluded and quiet. I highly recommend.
I have lived at Woodland Place Apartments for over 5 years now. The management, staff an owners are driven to make this complex a community friendly place to live, as they live on site too. This makes it easy for the tenants to get the attention we deserve, when we need it. Tina, the office manager, Is always on top of things. Now that we can E-mail in maintenance request, via the website, Scott, the maintenance Manager, gets to us even faster than before. Overall, I do not plan on moving anytime soon! TY Woodland Place Apartments and the staff for looking out for us!
As Woodland's longest-term resident, I can safely say that the only roaches are those caused by residents who don't take care of their own unit. To find a reasonably-priced apartment in this area of West Des Moines is incredible, & Woodland is a decent, solid value for the money -- plus we are lucky to have some of the best onsite (meaning they actually live there, too!) staff I've ever had in rental housing. The small touches they've added to what they see as "their home, too" have been amazing. And with only 2 buildings, there's a level of personal attention & caring that would be hard to come by at larger complexes. I've been nothing but happy here.
Cockroach infested from the 1st day we moved in to the last. TERRIBLE staff; cannot iterate enough. Do not live here unless you absolutely must.
i lived here for 5 years and never had any problems. The staff was great and location even better. I'd recommend if you don't want to pay for a pool or exercise room. -Stevens
