If you're looking for that cozy, small-town feel interspersed with the excitement of a big city, then Wilmington is the place for you. Located in the northern-most portion of Delaware near the Pennsylvania border and close to the city of Philadelphia, PA, Wilmington has plenty to offer no matter what your age or interests. The specific neighborhood of the city that's best for you can vary based on your budget, but some of the more popular neighborhoods include Trolley Square (which is known for its beautiful architecture) and Bradywine Park (which is dotted with lovely parks and nature trails).
If you're the artsy type, you'll love visiting the Delaware Art Museum, located on Kentemere Parkway. Here, you can enjoy viewing work from local and globally known artists ranging anywhere from the mid 1800s to present day. Be sure to visit plenty throughout the year, though, as they're always featuring new exhibits and galleries.

Property Ratings at Woodlea Elderly Apartments
My mother lived here for several years and enjoyed her time at Woodlea. The first big plus was the elevators because she previously lived in a 2nd floor apartment and wouldn't leave due to the stair difficulty. The second huge benefit was that residents get alert buttons to wear so that, if pressed, other residents would call or report to the distressed resident to assess the situation (falls, dizziness, etc) and then call the appropriate authorities. This saved my moms life a couple times. They are also pet friendly, have a small trail to a forested area, have a community room, an outdoor courtyard, a library, a media room, and a food program. The residents are kind and the management is excellent. The management really cares about each resident and does what they can to make their time at Woodlea pleasant and easy. This was a perfect place for my mom to be in her older years - surrounded by friends and caring staff in a safe setting.
There is a wait list at Woodlea that for me was about nine months but varies. These are small, one bedroom apartments in a six floor building with a sitting area, community room on the first floor, and an outdoor patio with tables and grills. The building is well maintained, clean and very professionally run. It's truly a case of "it is what you make it". There are complainers everywhere but this is nice housing outside of the city, and services such as two meals a day for a nominal amount are available. It IS independent living so any services are from outside agencies; not on site staff. In all, I've seen it as a positive move that has reduced financial pressures tremendously.
