The city of Winooski is located on its namesake river, north of Burlington. This cozy urban community has many apartments, and the city has embraced smart, sustainable growth over the years. It’s full of diversity – and the short commute into Burlington allows residents to take advantage of growing career opportunities and fun nightlife.
Due to its relatively small size, there aren’t really any distinct neighborhoods. All the amenities are in walking distance of Winooski apartments, including grocery stores and markets, pharmacies, and bakeries. Public transportation – provided by Green Mountain Transit – makes it simple to commute for work or leisure.
Living in the downtown area of Winooski puts you smack-dab in the center of an eclectic mix of upscale restaurants, bars, and cafes.

Property Ratings at THE WOOLEN MILL ASSOCIATES
The woolen mill is the worst place I've ever lived, Out of the first 3 months I lived here i spent 2 of them without a working oven due to their maintenance being "understaffed". When I first moved in i made them aware that i work nights and am sleeping on Monday and Tuesday during the day until 3:00pm but this information i gave them and keep giving them because they keep scheduling all of their maintenance upkeep during the times i will be asleep and now that i notified them I'm leaving at the end of my lease then have scheduled multiple apartment showings with only giving me 24 hours notice witch is breaking he lease i signed and have scheduled another 2 showings on Monday during the time i will be sleeping, and when this was brought to there attention they told me "I'm sorry we have to accommodate other people's schedule".
Cannot recommend this place. Very overpriced. You are paying strictly for location and reliable parking. If that is worth it to you, so is this. We had a drunken neighbor threaten us, and nothing was done. We received one email asking a question about it. Our ceiling has leaked more than 5 times, and we are on the bottom floor. The first three times, we had to call over five times to remind them it was still happening. The final time, they lied to us about checking it out and never came. We told them we would be out all day but were home the entire time. We did our job as tenants by paying our rent on time, keeping it clean, not having any loud complaints, and by not contributing to the constant weed smell in our hallway. That didn't stop them from harassing us about it after we told them we would not be renewing our lease. The apartments are beautiful at first glance. Eventually you begin to notice entire unpainted sections, cracks in the wall and random nails in the walls and ceiling. There is no lighting to speak of, aside from a poorly positioned kitchen light and one for the bathroom. The electric wiring makes no sense, with some switches being a good distance away. The staff also has no problem entering your house without proper notice. One time we awoke to hear someone leaving our apartment. Another time, I found the door had not been closed all the way after a package was dropped off. As someone who works full time and fulfills their job as a tenant, I do not expect to be treated like a college student. I do not expect to feel unsafe where I live. Love the high ceilings though. Major ups.
I love living at the woolen mill. As a Vermont resident for the last seventeen years I have lived in many different places, and I enjoy this one the most. It is a short walk from both my campus and my job. That and it is right next to the winooski river, allows cats, and has many amenities. I would like to live here longer but it is very expensive.
The building is beautiful and located right on a river with several walking paths. In addition, it is close to restaurants, the bank, post office, a bus stop, and City Hall which is very convenient. The management is very friendly and helpful; so are the maintenance staff which are available often to fix any problem that might occur or even to just change the light bulb. It is also the only apartment complex in the Burlington/ Winooski area with a gym, racquetball court, pool, barbecue and picnic area. It is simply a great place to live with a lot to love!
The Woolen Mill is a historical building dating back to around Abe Lincoln's time. Property management is friendly although it's a bit on the expensive side. The units are large with up to 15 foot ceilings. Electric heat is one drawback. There's plenty of local restaurants within walking distance. Indoor pool is great as it allows for swimming year round, nice during a blizzard! There's a raquetball court as well as outdoor BBQ pits. The Winooski Police Department and City Hall is only a block or two away. For the adventurous, Quebec is 30 minutes away and Montreal about 90 minutes.
It's a great place to live. Don't believe me, Come see for yourself!
The Woolen Mill apartments are absolutely gorgeous. The building is gorgeous, the halls are gorgeous, and your apartment unit will be gorgeous. On top of that, they promise a lot of things - a gym, pool, laundry room, dishwasher, free coffee, etc. There are a lot of perks to living here. The cons though? Managament. I am a current resident and don't want to single myself out with examples, but for the price, I was expecting a lot more of what they promised when I signed the lease. I should have been more concerned at the rather large number of bad reviews online... but the visual charm of these apartments won over.
Center of Winooski night life hub. oh yeah, and the apartments are nice too. Good security, great view, pool and gym are free and onsite.
Apartment overall has great amenities and great loft space. Wish there was underground or garage parking for the wintertime and my rating is Good to Excellent - unable to put excellent due to airplane noise.
Location: Pros: Location is nearly ideal: Walking distance from great restaurants, bus stop, a small grocery store, a liquor store, and some good trails. Cons: In path of all flights in and out of Burlington airport. Also, fairly close to an active train track. So depending upon the apartment, it could get very noisy. Also, the primary route to get to the apartments is the notorious Winooski rotary, which isn't such a big issue, but at time can be aggravating. Building(s) and Staff: Pros: This place is HUGE! There is a laundry room with many washers and dryers, although it can get a bit pricey. There are also vending machines with soft drinks and healthy snacks available, which I found to be a great convenience. There is also coffee (at a price) and fruit/granola bars (free) available every morning of weekdays, which is a nice little perk. The office area was recently renovated and modernized and looks very good. The administrative and maintenance staff are generally friendly and professional. Place is kept clean. There are recycling/trash rooms and trash chutes on various floors. Carts are available on site for tenants' use during move etc. There is a decent gym within the property - The Woolen Mill Health Club, for which the membership is free for tenants. I used it regularly and found it to be really nice and not too crowded; staff is very friendly, equipments are generally new and the gym has free weights as well as bench press/squat cages. There is also a pool and a racquet ball court. Cons: Not necessarily a con, but the building could look a bit better with a some additional plants in hallways; sometimes it looks like a psychiatric ward from horror movies set in 60s and 70s. Apartments: Pros: Charming layout with brick walls and expansive windows. Live-in maintenance/emergency response staff. Cons: To sum up everything below in one word, NOISY! Walls are paper thin, so much so that you can hear and understand conversations going on in your neighbor's apartment! Allow me be emphatic: this means that you hear everything, including, but not limited to, intimate interactions, arguments, shows they watch, games they play, their names, their family/health histories, their relationship troubles, what makes them laugh, what makes them sad etc. It also means that your neighbors hear everything going on in your apartment as well! Doors have electronic key access, which is great, except that for doors to be locked properly, they need to be slammed shut. This means that you will make a lots of noise every time you leave or come in to your apartment even if you have the best intentions to not disturb your neighbors' peace. This little annoyance does not mean much during reasonable hours, but in the middle of the night, it is bound to make you jump out of your bed. If your apartment faces the parking lot, noise levels are much much higher when compared to an apartment that is facing the Winooski river. Reasons: cars coming in and out of the parking lot at late hours, people hanging out in the parking lot to smoke, planes landing and taking off, trains operating late at night (there is one train that comes around 3 AM and the driver makes certain, with a LOOOOOOOONG horn, that everyone in that area ames up!), and drain pipes for rain water. Kitchens are very very small, and dish washers/oven are old style/inefficient. Heat is not included, and because of that, the charming layout with brick walls and expansive windows that I liked so much (see Pros!) all of sudden become the black holes where all your paycheck goes to keep the place warm in winter. Although the building is advertised as non-smoking property, many people smoke in their apartments without much consequences from the management. Not only that you will smell smoke in your apartment all the time, soon your clothes, and everything else in your home, will also start smelling like smoke. Sure, you can call the live-in staff (who are very responsive and will come and talk to your neighbors on your behalf) and complain to management (who will send a few threatening letters to the offender) but nothing will really change. Bottom line: Pros: Location, The Woolen Mill Health Club, Friendly staff Cons: Noisy to the point where you will dread going home; too expensive with rent-to-comfort ratio highly distorted; heat not included.
The location is ideal - within walking distance to great restaurants, the bus stop, the library, small grocers and the liquor store. The apartments however, leave a lot to be desired, especially the walls. They are so very thin you can hear clear conversations (and other noises) from your neighbors. The apt code gives a three strike policy for those who cause more disturbance after 10pm however, that is not the case. The amenities leave a lot to be desired. While some kitchens have tiles, others have peeling linoleum, cracked fridges, and old stoves. Counter tops are scratched and the bathroom toilet/sink do not flush/drain adequately. The dishwashers are old and don't clean. Overall, the location is ideal but the apartments leave a lot to be desired, especially for the rent (that actually has increased).
