Property Ratings at Yorktowne Apartments
I lived in Yorktowne 2018-2019. There was numerous things that took place while I lived here but honestly it’s what you make of it. I like in an apartment building with a lady who let her kids do anything! They left cups, candy rappers, coloring books etc in the hallways. They were always playing on the staircase. My downstairs neighbor smoked cigarettes & it always came through the vents. Literally would wake me up at night. During the summer time, it was an infestation of stink bugs. I would literally wake up to one crawling on me. They were everywhere. I told the leasing manager Judy and nothing was ever done about it. I had to have my dad come spray my entire apartment down because I am terrified of bugs I wouldn’t even be there. One day the maintenance man knocked on my door and literally questioned me about my apartment for 20 mins. Asking am I old enough to leave here alone, how old am I, etc. I didn’t bother to tell Judy because she was the rudest person I’ve ever encountered. I don’t understand how’s she still the manager. Oh and when I moved in there was no phone jacks etc for Internet or cable to be set up. & the leasing office had the nerve to argue with me about as if it was my fault when clearly this was something they missed when refurbishing the apartment. One time Judy even lied about someone checking on my dishwasher that was flooding with dirty water, I never even used the dishwasher but would smell a horrid smell coming from it. I told Judy about this and she lied and said someone came. I question her when and what was the name of the worker & why I didn’t have a note on my door. She literally said she didn’t know. How unsafe and reassuring is that? Lol but anyway, the apartment itself is very nice despite the hiccups. Wood floors, newly furnished counter tops and kitchen. I loved the floor plan & the modeling but I could go without Judy & the living conditions that I encountered.
I wish i could give this review negative stars. I have only been living in the Yorktowne Apartments for 2 months and I have had nonstop issues. The people above me knock on the floor all the time and through the night waking me up, the whole unit smells strongly of cigarette smoke affecting my asthma, there are bees living in the walls getting into the apartments, and i had water bugs getting in. The basement is all open and neighbors take up all the space. I have personally been threatened by a tenant within the first week of living there and management would not move me to another unit, they instead "talked to her", because we're back in grade-school? Management will "post letters" about all of the issues but wont do anything about it. I have also talked to corporate and they said they will post more letters, and that there is not much they can do about people clearly breaking the lease and disturbing other tenants. Maybe the only positive thing i can say about it is maintenance came immediately and fixed whatever issues I had. This is very unfortunate because I like the layout of the apartment and the neighbors across the hall are nice, but losing sleep and not being able to breath clean air in my own apartment is ridiculous and extremely stressful. Rent at your own risk, i cant speak for other units at this complex, but management and corporate obviously do not care if your unit has issues and will let you continue being miserable so that they can take money from you. I am willing to leave a better review if anything changes, but it looks like there will only be more letters posted and that's it.
No insulation- before we repaired it ourselves, you could see outside after removing corner decorative stripping. Laundry room barely fits washer and dryer, and if you use it for that, you have no closet downstairs in your townhouse. Sewer system for the building backs up about 3-5 Times a year, flooding your downstairs with sewage water. Can take them days to unclog the problem. They do NOT help you clean up either. Maintenance workers are a joke- they can't actually fix anything right. So if you want it fixed correctly, better do it yourself. Management is ok, but acts like everything is an inconvenience for her. Company that owns facility doesn't care at all, and will go out of their way to not pay for their responsibilities, which is why everything is done so cheaply. This place sucks. Oh, and front door and windows don't seal, so be prepared to feel breezes when the wind blows. A/c and heating system is old and inefficient causing high utility bills. Thermostat sticks. Cheapest paint, carpet, etc used.
First & second floor apartments, with over-sized rooms and closets galore. Your choice of one, two bedrooms, or a Townhouse. A lot of the apartments, though well maintained, are being "renovated" and up-dated. The maintenance staff is excellent about prompt response to any problem. The streets are very well lighted with convenient parking. These apartments have a lot of well groomed, open, common area, with large trees and fronts of all buildings, with only four apartments or a Townhouse, are beautifully landscaped. Most buildings have basement for storage and washing machines & dryers. There is also a laundry mat on site. Enjoy a crystal clear pool with lounge chairs and tables that is surrounded by high chain link fencing. Animals are allowed for a small additional fee and "clean-up stations" are very convenient throughout. Very quiet complex that backs to a well kept subdivision of ranch homes. Easy access to shopping and two major highways near by. Rent lower than most other apartments this size with this much to offer.
I moved into the Kimberley Terrace side of Yorktowne Apartments in May 2014. Yorktowne has proven to be an excellent and comfortable place to call home. Maintenance is easily reached and always responds within 24 hours. The day I moved in I had an issue and they showed up within the hour! The basement provides W/D hookups and plenty of storage space. The neighborhood is safe and quiet. The kitchen is large and has ample cabinet and counter space and can fit a kitchen table with a leaf easily. The office staff is friendly and attentive. There is a pool on property available to all residents, and also a laundry facility for residents without a washer and dryer. The grounds are very well maintained and the parking lot was recently repaved and painted. Public transportation is readily available and the complex is conveniently close to major highways, shopping, and grocery stores.
Townhouses are nice in size, laundry room could be bigger. No downstairs storage/closet, if you use your washer/dryer hookups. Units could be better insulated. Every major room has a ceiling fan, which is wonderful. Nice patios. Pool is nice as well. Nice complex, family friendly, lots of kids playing in common areas. Pretty friendly, have areas designated for pet "potty breaks" with pick up bags provided. Complex has preventative maintenance, usually yearly, done by them so you don't have to. Maintenance requests are handled usually within 48 hours for non urgent problems. Overall, a nice place to live. Price could be a little cheaper, but that's my opinion. No basement, so if you have things you need to store away, be prepared to rent a storage unit somewhere, as my household does.
This place is great for people or couples who are moving into an apartment for the first time. The one bedrooms are decent size with a big kitchen!! Rent is affordable as well and it's right in the middle of everything in South County! There is a pool and the area is pretty quiet, so that's always a plus. The parking is pretty good, too. The only downfall would be the size of the stairwell leading to the top floor and the size of the door frame. It makes it difficult to move furniture into the room. Other than that, it's a great first place and it's even more fun when you can make it your own!!
Living in my community is a positive and joyful experience. I comfortably reside in a spacious living quarters. I live locally around and neary lifes necessities . I'm able to utilize the apt community ammentities such as on site laundry room and sparkling pool. This community has 10 different floor plans so that as my family grows I am able to stay in the community. What I truly enjoy most is I can call this my home. Such a wonderful place to be!
