Adjacent to Vanderbilt University in Downtown Nashville, Belmont University is the second-largest private university in Tennessee -- right behind its neighbor. Belmont University is a Christian university founded in 1890. It features several historic buildings, including Acklen Hall, once known as the Belmont Mansion. This 36-room, antebellum plantation was built in 1850 and today serves as a museum.
The Belmont Bruins participate in NCAA Division I as part of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Bruins baseball, soccer, and softball teams play at E.S. Rose Park.
