Northside is one of the oldest and largest neighborhoods in Syracuse. This sprawling neighborhood has multiple parks and is best known for its incredible collection of international restaurants and grocers, especially in Little Italy Syracuse. Northside is also known for its affordability. The neighborhood has rental options for every budget and style including high-rise apartments, lofts, luxury condos, and single-family houses. Attracting even more renters, Northside is about two miles away from Downtown Syracuse, Syracuse University, and Lakefront, a trendy neighborhood along Onondaga Lake. Residents have access to Interstate 690 and Route 11, so traveling across Syracuse is made easy.

Property Ratings at James Court Apartments
I lived in one of these apartments for 3.5 years, from 2018 to 2021. While I can't speak to their current state, I wanted to give my honest review of my time living there. These apartments are small. They certainly are advertised as a studio, but there really is only enough room for a full-sized bed, a desk, and maybe a dresser or tv stand. You cannot control the temperature in the winter, so being on the 3rd floor got VERY hot, to the point where windows were open almost constantly. The kitchen is even smaller. On the one side, there's only enough room for a microwave. That leaves about a foot of counter space, hardly any room to put a cutting board down. The oven in the unit I had did not have any temperatures on it, so it was a guessing game as to what I was actually cooking things at. And the burners on the stove are small too, smaller than most standard pots/pans. The walls inside the buildings are paper thin, and you can hear EVERYTHING that your neighbor is doing, especially if they are in the hallway. Smoking is permitted and many neighbors will be smoking, so the hallways consistently have a smoky smell. I would always have my packages delivered straight to the office address instead of my individual unit, so I don't know if that's something management still offers. Did have packages stolen on occasion. The bathroom was honestly quiet large, however the shower was either scalding hot or freezing cold, with no in-between. I ended up getting a new showerhead early on because the one provided hardly had water coming out of it. Laundry is expensive and in another building, so you'll have to have quarters on hand and be willing to walk outside in the snow to go get your laundry. They do plow the road in the winter (at least back then), but never salted it so it would become an ice rink by night. The covered parking was a benefit, but sometimes it fills up and you'll have to park in the back. There will almost always be sketchy looking people walking around, probably due to the complex's proximity to Skyline down the road. People would sit on the corner of the property and just made it overall not a safe-feeling place to be outside. Neighbors too can appear sketchy at times. Overall, James Court was relatively quiet for a place to sleep and shower. But as a home, I can say you will be almost guaranteed to find better elsewhere. If you are truly in desperate need of an apartment, these will be there.
Let’s just say you get what you pay for, bad management included. Could not stay at this place for more than 3 days since the apartment smells heavily of smoke, has roaches, and is in a bad neighborhood. Requested a lease termination and got it which management promised to return the first months rent included in the deposit, but after fighting with them about it for two months I’ve yet to receive anything so I wouldn’t expect them to return your deposit either. I cannot in good faith leave this place without warning others, and if you do still decide to stay at this place, don’t leave any ordered packages unattended as they will be stolen.
I just recently renewed my lease for this apartment. The location is perfect. The amenities are awesome as well. Living here relieves a lot of stress and day to day worries. There are such great perks residing here ???? everything is included, cable, electricity and heat and hot water. There is no need to leave!
