A former mayor once dubbed Bellingham the “City of Subdued Excitement,” an oddly perfect nickname for this delightful and unique community. Ninety minutes north of Seattle on Interstate 5, Bellingham is a charming small city positioned about twenty miles from the Canadian border. Western Washington University enrolls around 16,000 students, many of whom chose to live in the coastal Sehome area near campus.
Locals are quite enthusiastic about beer, books, and bicycles, and you’ll spot many businesses around town specializing in any and all of those Pacific Northwest staples. Bellingham hosts numerous community events throughout the year, covering everything from music to athletics; perhaps the most unique is the annual Ski to Sea race, a seven-leg relay in which teams compete to get from Mount Baker Ski Area to Bellingham Bay via skis, bikes, boats, and by foot.

Property Ratings at Maple Park Apartments
What you can expect from this complex: - Being able to park wherever you like, even across spots! - Having dings/scrapes on your car from people hitting it - Blasting music from 9am-2am - Being snowed in - Trash in the hallways/corridors - Dog poop all over the property that isn't picked up - Dogs running around and not on leashes - Getting your packages: most are delivered to the office which isn't always open, so add about 2-4 days to your expected time - A pretty good maintenance team that responds quickly - Convenient location What you can't expect: - The office to do ANYTHING about issues except send out a single email (if they remember) - Regulated rent - each apartment is priced differently, even if it's the exact same unit. They up the rent whenever a unit is available and have no clear amounts (as verified on their own site) - Not to step in dog poo (even if you don't have a dog) - Peace in your apartment because it's noisy as all get-out So yeah, location and maintenance are awesome, everything else sucks!
This was a great place to live! We rarely heard noise from other complexes. There is always a place to park, which is hard to find at other apartments. The 24 hour gym is super convenient. The whole staff is so kind and helpful.
Property Manager at Maple Park Apartments, Responded To This Review
Thank you so much for this wonderful review! We are so glad you enjoyed living here.
We loved renting from Maple Park Apartments. Forced to rent sight-unseen (we signed the lease in New York) we were prepared for literally anything. We got so lucky to have chosen these apartments. The office staff--Sarah and Tonia--were unfailing friendly, personable, approachable and kind. Their maintenance crew were always present and active and responded to Maintenance request promptly and reliably. The complex itself is very quiet and peaceful with most tenants keeping to themselves. The pool, hot tub and gym facilities were well maintained and easily accessible. The units are as-advertised and though they are not cheap, they fall within the average rental rates for the area. We moved not from wanting anything other than to live in a bigger house with our own yard.
We 3 had a great experience with Maple Park apartments! The office ladies were always super helpful, knowledgeable, and kind! And maintenance is super quick and reliable (shout-out to Parker!) The few problems we had while we lived there were fixed very quick and with no hassle. Highly reccommended to rent here, 5 stars :)
Looking at any negative reviews I am surprised. They must have been while the property was under different management because my experience here has been nothing but positive. They have been extremely helpful and flexible with many things for us. When we added another person onto our lease the transition was flawless and easy. Whenever we had any maintenance issues they were dealt with expediently by very nice, very professional maintenance staff. Pay rent on time, just be a good tenant/neighbor in general and you'll have a good place to live.
I would only recommend someone rent from Maple Park Apartments if you are (a)in very desperate need and (b)have the money to spare. While these apartments are ideally located within close distance to Western Washington University, I'd say it's the single benefit of living here. None of the appliances are new or well-maintained, and the carpet is as old as the building. College students make up the majority of tenants here, and weekly parties are common---if you're looking for a peaceful, quiet neighborhood, this isn't it. However, more than any loud, drunken party and outdated appliance, I was post put-off by the silverfish and ant infestation. I've heard some reports of cockroaches, but this was never a problem in my building or unit. The manager, Peggy, claimed this was the tenant's responsibility and refused extermination services. I hired a profession to deal with the matter, but it was little use when the problem lies with the complex or property and not a single unit. I lived here from 2005 - 2009, and wouldn't wish my experience anyone. Since my move, Maple Park has improved none of its ongoing issues but has increased rent drastically. Before you consider Maple Park as your new home, I suggest reading other reviews and ratings. There are worse apartments than Maple Park, particularly in the Sehome area, but good ones are out there, too, and with better management.
Maple Park is a great place to live being only a block away from Lincoln Creek Park and Ride and on the other side, a block away from Fred Meyer. 3 years here as a college student and I wish I could stay! Also, laundry machines are in the units (big plus for college town apartments!) and a swimming pool as well as barbecue and gazebo area!
