There's so much to love about Downtown Tacoma: its location on the Foss Waterway, its beautiful architecture, its thriving arts scene, its breweries and nightclubs, and the University of Washington Tacoma. Downtown Tacoma is hilly, with fantastic views of Puget Sound and Mount Rainier. It is very walkable (if you don’t mind the hills), and it is filled with fun and interesting things to do, from museums and theaters to festivals and events.
Downtown Tacoma is the location of the Museum District, home to the Tacoma Art Museum, the Museum of Glass, the Washington State History Museum, and the Children's Museum of Tacoma. As soon as you find your apartment, loft, or condo in Tacoma, visit the Chihuly Bridge of Glass -- a spectacular work of art leading to the Museum of Glass. Public art also includes Chihuly glass, which you'll see everywhere as you walk around the city.

Property Ratings at The Astor
I was one of the first residents at the Astor. Back when they had a guard, the parking was wide open and the place was well managed. What I found was a serious HVAC issue and a very unsafe location. I had a person killed directly under my apartment (I was on the 6th floor). I heard gunshots nightly. Cars racing and doing cookies. The HVAC system can’t keep up in the winter. I froze! There is NO ac in the building and a ton of sun exposure so summers are brutal! Keep in mind you can only open the windows 2”. So the value isn’t there. The views are off the charts! The rooftop is amazing! The vault is under used and a wonderful open space. I found the gym to be very good as well. But the value? No AC, lack of efficient heat, the unsafe shootings on a nightly basis make this a HARD pass!

Thank you for sharing your experience at the Astor. We apologize for the issues you encountered and will work to improve our building and HVAC system. We value your feedback and have taken steps to address these concerns. We hope you'll give us another chance in the future.
I have currently (July 2023) been living at the Astor for 10 months. In the past 10 months the building has been in a steady state of decline. The staff are horrible - they have no interest in improving issues for residents or even replying to an email related to rent payment. The building is disgusting - common spaces are not maintained. The communal bathroom never has toilet paper and has a constantly overflowing trash. The gym is supposedly cleaned once a week but constantly filthy. An underdeveloped trash system leads to hallways filled with garbage every day. The location is great but that is genuinely the only part of the living experience that is. Save your money and live literally anywhere else.
Not worth living here more than one term. Great to get to know the area, but it is over priced. Tenants typically get together and complain to each other about pet droppings in the elevator, how the apartments are uncomfortable in the summer and winter, and other various issues. I would only refer a person to live here under certain conditions. Management could do better by increasing informal social events.
