Charities across the United States and Canada are doing important work to support the multifamily industry and its residents. Every November, Apartments.com spotlights a few of these organizations in our ThanksGifting campaign.
The annual program, which is now in its fifth year, recognizes nonprofits that work closely with multifamily properties and residents to address dire social issues.
This year, we’re celebrating four organizations and awarding each a donation of $10,000 to continue their essential work: Hatching Hope, Move for Hunger, United Way Centraide, and Entryway.
And rounding out the donation to a total of $50,000, we’re also donating to one more charity. Keep reading to learn how you can choose the next charity to receive a $10,000 donation.
Meet this year’s winners
Partnering with multifamily, the recipients of this year’s campaign tackle social issues from coast to coast:
- Hatching Hope helps multifamily residents recover from disasters.
- Move for Hunger fights hunger and waste by coordinating with apartment communities and movers to redirect food to local food banks.
- United Way Centraide Canada provides a helpline to help residents and others access essential resources.
- Entryway combats homelessness by offering at-risk individuals a path to housing and economic stability through a career in the multifamily industry.
Hatching Hope helps disaster victims recover
Working across the Southeast, Hatching Hope serves multifamily residents displaced by hurricanes, floods, and other disasters, providing immediate and long-term recovery essentials to disaster victims.
The organization has served over 1.2 million residents, including on-the-ground support to victims of Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
Hatching Hope is using the $10,000 donation to purchase a 30-foot enclosed trailer to help transport essential relief kits to hundreds of families affected by disasters.

Move for Hunger fights hunger and waste
In collaboration with apartment communities and moving companies, Move for Hunger collects unopened food products and delivers them to local food banks and food pantries.
The organization works to simultaneously fight hunger and prevent food waste. So far, it has provided over 42 million meals to families in needed, including delivering over 16 trailer loads of food to communities hit by the recent disasters in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
With this year’s $10,000 donation, Move for Hunger will provide more than 30,000 meals to individuals in need.

United Way Centraide gives Canadian residents an essential helpline
Operating nationwide in Canada, United Way Centraide runs the free helpline 211.
This service helps millions of Canadians — including many in multifamily housing — access social and community resources, such as housing, work opportunities, and mental health support. The helpline is available 24/7, with interpretation in over 150 languages, and serves over 2 million callers annually.
The $10,000 donation will help boost awareness of the 211 helpline and support efforts to improve the database with accurate, up-to-date information about local resources.
Entryway creates self-sufficiency through multifamily careers
With the mission of building economic self-sufficiency, Entryway combats homelessness through career and housing opportunities in multifamily. The organization offers training and support to individuals and families facing housing instability.
This year, Entryway’s training program has helped over 170 people gain full-time employment through roles such as maintenance technician, leasing agent, groundskeeper, and more. The organization partners with 90 owner-operator multifamily companies across the nation.
The $10,000 donation will help Entryway expand its training program. The program, which offers in-person and hands-on training opportunities, has seen a 16 percent increase in applications this year.
