How to Host a Football Watch Party for Residents

This football season, give your residents a way to come together and celebrate the game. A communal watch party is a fun way to build community among your resident sports fans. Ready to kick off a watch party for the big game? Here’s how to get started.

1. Select the right space

You’ll want a community room with ample seating, and at least one big-screen TV or projector. If your space lacks an appropriate screen, you can also rent a large TV or two for the event. Provide a variety of seating options to fill the space, such as couches, folding chairs, beanbag chairs, and cushions.

2. Promote the event in advance

Get the word out early, such as posting your event on Facebook, putting up flyers and posters in the elevators and lobby, and advertising the event in your resident newsletter. Ask your residents to RSVP to get a rough headcount.

3. Load up on food and drinks

It’s not a football watch party without an abundance of snacks! Think nachos, chicken wings, chips and dips, chili, tacos, pizza, and cookies. Keep a variety of tasty treats on hand, or throw a potluck. Encourage your residents to bring their own drinks, and make a mini fridge or cooler available.

4. Encourage team spirit

Decorate the space with the colors and banners of the competing teams. Streamers, balloons, and disposable tablecloths are all fun ways to boost team spirit, and encourage your residents to dress up in their team’s colors.

5. Offer games and activities

Keep your residents entertained throughout the event with activities they can play during half-time and lulls in the game. Cornhole is a great option for all ages, and if your community is home to lots of families with kids, consider providing markers and football-themed coloring sheets so that younger children can stay occupied.
